Two handed weapons on horseback animation?
Is it suppose to show the character only holding it with one hand? I know that there's a penalty for a two handed weapon being held in only one hand, so I'm curious if this penalty is being applied on horseback since it's showing my character only using the one hand. When I get off of the horse, he holds it with two. Any help would be appreciated!

it's actually yes to all of those, source: http://mountandblade.wikia.com/wiki/Weapons
dont listen to me

or does that only apply to brastard swords and morning stars, as they can be used with both handlings?

Unknown, would have to test weapons while having even one & two handed skill.
In Viking you can't use 2-handed on mount. (At least Claymores and Troll). Native I use 2 handed axe. Disadvantage is no shield when charging. Advantage is one hit on most enemies or mounts they ride. Not really a big deal in native. I always go 2 handed.
i prefer morning star, being a one-two hander that can break through gaurds and has a fairly high peircing damage gives it some unique capabilities, attacking through gaurds while in horse is very easy even as a one handed weapon, though it is fairly short.

This is what concerned me. However, the two hander that I'm using only says "Two Handed" in the description, so it doesn't have the ability to be wielded as a one handed weapon. However, the animation is showing my character only using one hand to hold the weapon and the change stance button (X in the default instance) doesn't do anything. I was under the impression that the reduction only affects variable weapons that can be wielded in either a two handed stance or one handed one.

So I was wondering if the reduction is being applied while on horseback and taken off when the character grips it with two hands when he dismounts or if it's just a cosmetic thing since it's not a variable weapon.
Im fairly sure that two handed weapons do not lose damage, ive got no real test ground for this, but when i was using a 1-2 hander on horse, my shield broke from a couched lance, and while i have mcuh higher one handed (at 300 with over 150 more) it was dealing roughly the same amount of damage at about 150 two handed, so no i do not believe this is the case at all.
When using a two handed weapon one handed it loses speed, not damage, if I remember correctly. This will lead it to cause less damage, but when used horseback, the mount's speed will compensate for that and then some. Make sure to use swings that go in the same direction the horse travels for max profit.

On a horse there is a penalty for using one hand. this is more than compensated by the momentum from the horse, making it a good choice over one handed if you don't absolutely need the shield.
Ah, so thats the case, slower swing speed... which would also mean less total potential attacks per minute...

Except that my prefered two hander is the morningstar which breaks gaurds.. and most enemies will actually block my attacks...

To attack from horseback or to not... Guess i'll have to experiment some more.
Try couched lance from horseback. Major ouch. :)
if you think THATS terrible, try doing it while not on a horse, never will you feel so useless then in that scenario.
Oh, I don't think couched lances are useless. In fact, it's my favourite fighting style. Can't beat 300 damage hits. :)

300 hits are cool but running into people with a stick every battle gets awfully boring awfully fast
