2) Equipping your companions with blunt weapons only, and recruiting man hunters on the field, will give you a total slaver company and they'll knock out everyone you vs, so you can QUICKLY fill up your prison slots.
2) get a mount and learn to use the bow from horseback.
3) one of the best sources of income is farming sea raiders. you will need around 20 archers and about 10 mounted soldiers to take on any of the groups that spawn. they drop good gear that sells for a lot. plus, if you have few troops you can use this to farm renown as well.
4) when siegeing a castle/town BRING KNIGHTS! if you for some reason are only using a specific faction and dont use troops from all factions, use only the highest tiered soldiers you can get. preferably with shields. if you bring low tier troops, they will just be eaten up. also, try to mix the ratio at about 80/20 knights/sharpshooters. you want to set your archers to stand in front of the wall about 50 paces out and fire at the defenders. yes they will die, but they will kill several defenders that are raining arrows on your knights.
5) NEVER LET YOUR SOLDIERS FIGHT WITHOUT YOU! ALWAYS LEAD THEM INTO BATTLE!! if you dont, YOU WILL LOSE SOLDIERS even if you have overwhelming odds (like 120 swadian knight vs 4 forest bandits= 7 knights dead, only 2 bandits dead, 1 wounded and 1 routed. its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥)
6) spam trainer on all your companions. every companion needs to have this skill. it stacks and you can raise an army of knights in a couple days while you are trading.
7) never sacrifice troops to run away from a battle you cant win. the lords of the realm will NEVER forget that and they will always take a hit to their relationship with you. INSTEAD, lead your men into battle. when the fight starts, have your army hold position, then charge the enemy ranks. get knocked out and force a retreat. if you still have enough soldiers after the retreat, you (usually) can just leave the battle now. after that, you are on the world map and you just need to go in the opposite direction of the enemy troops.
theres a few more that i got, but i have to end it here.
1. Bastard Swords, for instance, are both 1 and 2 handed. This could be useful if you wish you could have a 2 handed weapon equipped but also want to keep a 1 handed weapon so you can use a shield to protect against missiles and such. If you need to protect yourself, you can use the sword in 1 handed with your shield, but if you get into a melee where arrows aren't going to be coming, then take the shield off and you can attack powerfully. Bastard Swords MAY be more common in Swadia--but I have not tested empirically.
2. When attacking in a siege, see if you can bring a 2 handed weapon, or perhaps that Bastard Sword. Attack with your troops, and when you get near the top of the ladder, pull out the 2 hander. Make sure that several of your troops have already lept down onto the wall, and that you are sort of at the top of the ladder. Enemies will naturally crowd around your troops right where they jump off the ladder. Start raining overhead blows down with your 2 hander, constantly. You will start reking enemies, and it should start helping your troops. Only use overhead blows because otherwise you either will not hit them or your weapon will get stuck on something.
3. Ever get in a tournement where you have to use a lance but the other guy is chasing after you so you can't get him? This should work: gain some speed as he's following you. Then slow down and turn sharply to the side. At the same time, start winding up your lance, clicking the left mouse button. You want to time it and aim it right so that it hits his horse, or the rider if possible. It doesn't seem to do tons of damage but it does enough that after a few times, depending on prior damage, it should take them off their horse at least. Then, just lance through them when their on their feet.
(but is insanely satisfying when you totally blindside one who is running away from your friends, with your lance)
1) If you're not a fan of Mods that overhaul the game, then download TweakMB. This will allow you to "tweak" certain aspects of the game to suit you. i.e. Cattle follow you. Companions never leave. Increase/decrease ammunition. Village Elders always have quests available. etc
2) It is possible to solo an entire enemy army. Make sure you are on foot; start running backwards and swing swing swing (preferably a long reach double-handed weapon). The enemy will politely pursue you in single-file, so you can kill them one-by-one. (This doesn't apply to mounted enemies and can apply to ranged, if you get all up in their faces first, so that they draw their melee weapons).
3) It's good to field a mix of elite troops from different factions, but beware of morale. Mixing factions gives a penalty to morale. In addition: the larger your army, the larger the morale penalty.
4) When sieging: tell your shielded infantry to line-up a short distance from the castle. With your bow and arrows; move close towards the castle, shoot-up and pepper the enemy archers with easy headshots.
5) On the battlefield: mount all of your companions and ensure you have 10-20 other mounted units. Allow your mounted units to hold ground, whilst you and your companions swoop around the enemy force (now the enemy should be in the middle). Call the command; you and your companions attacking from the rear and your mounted units storming from the front. CRUSHED!
FLORIS:
1) When joining a tournment:
- Customise the options so that the number of participants matches the size of you and your companions. (I used MOD options from "camp" so that companions never leave; so I have 21 companions)
- Customise each companion on the customise options and equip them with sword and shield. DO NOT give them upgrades i.e. upgrade weapons/armor. DO NOT give them horses.
- Enter the battle and you should see 4 teams of 5 and all are comprised of your companions.
- Make sure you are mounted and bid high 8-10 points.
- Get easy kills and easy money
- Your companions will also level-up their weapon skills faster as they are hacking on each other.
- You will also win the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prices, as you and your companions will be the only participants.
