Anno domini 1257 lance recruitment or native recruitment?
Im going to start a playtrough of Anno domini soon, but it has a choice of native recruitment or lance recruitment. Which one should i choose to have a better experience?

I like Lance Recruitment more, its basically you have a village and you go there and hit recruit people and instead of having to go village to village all the people are at your village as "nobles" that have some footman

It depends whether you want to start as a lord of a kingdom - if you don't, you will only be able to recruit guys from taverns & mercenary companions until you own a village. Lance recruitment allows you to recruit guys in groups of 10 (I think), and you get a mixed bunch of ♥♥♥♥, middle-of-the-road and badass troops. The final version isn't released yet though, although it should be soon. Check forums.taleworlds.com

Lance recruitment.

It takes some getting used to, coming from other systems, but it's awesome once you realize all the benefits it brings.

It's a little harder on non-affliated characters, since they can only recruit mercenaries from towns...but on the other hand, mercenaries start with decent gear and training (and are cheaper for non-lords (1000 per Lance vs 3000 per Lance for Lords)), while Fief troops start, usually, with lower quality and have to be built up over time (but they retain their quality levels when sent-home, so over time you'll build a huge force of elite lances).

Also once you build up your manors sufficiently you can call on manor lances as well.

Each Fief can hold a maximum of 14 lances (Lances are 8-10 troops each, consisting of the lesser nobility and their levy).

One of the best features is that you can just send your troops home (via the fief menu) when you don't need them and completely avoid having to pay upkeep. Calling up a Lance during War-time is free, but during peace time they cost 500 denar each. Weekly wages though are unchanged, and early on you won't be able to afford keep more then a few lances active at a time, unless you're in a war and can raid the crap out of enemies to keep your funds up. Later on, once you've built up a manor, you can support larger amounts of troops active year-round.

Lances that are sent home retain their quality level and can be called again, however if a Lance took casualities, it can't re-summoned until they're replaced their losses with fresh recruits to get them above 8 troops.

Ok, thanks for the answers everyone, but i have one more question: Wont it be a bit OP? Because you instantly have a full equipped army.

Nope, since it has 1 high tier unit, many middle tiers and lots of low tier units.

i played the mod with both, and i could say the native way is easier (just recruit nobles only, pays a lot but gives a lot in return if you lvl them high enough.)

Nah, the lances are an assortment of troops, similar to how actual medevial levies worked. And it takes a fair while to actually build up your Lances to a decent level, since early on you'll have poor surgery and keep losing troops.

And depending on your party size, you might not even be able to use all your lances at once.

I find it makes the game a lot more interesting since you can't just collect and spam a couple types of OP units. You'll always have a relatively balanced force, which means you'll need to use your forces strategically for best effect, even when they're highly trained.

If you're using Lance Recruitment, you can't unless you own the village directly and it has lances available to recruit. Mercs are basically your only ON-demand option, and they extort a high price from Lords of a kingdom.

If you lack lances, they probably haven't replenished since the last owner used them. Especially if the village had the crap raided out of it, since the rate of lance replenishment is largely based on fief properity, though you'll never restore more then 1 per week.

If you've built up a Private Estate, and have enough population you can also call up an army from there.

Of course it could just be bugged. Hard to say.
