In Multiplayer? Lances are easier to dodge than well used swords in my experience, and people who try to fight players the way they would an AI are pretty easy to bump and slash anyway.

With a low ping, I am partial to two-handed swords. With a high ping, I don't play unless there is an event. But if my ping is high and I have to play, axes and shields are what I use.

In single player, a two-handed sword is all you need. It is not the best for any task, but it is adequate for everything.

As a new player what are the advantages in axe vs swords? I am currently using a 2h axe and I like it as I am more partial to axes for style reasons but does it really matter? I am only playin sinlge playerr atm.

Axes have a bonus against shields that swords do not have in most mods, as well as higher damage.

Swords usually have an advantage in speed and reach. In many cases, swords get a thrust that does piercing damage, and is great for dealing with armored enemies.

Axes are also heavier, which is a negative when it comes to movement speed, and a positive when it comes to block stun.

For singleplayer, IMO, axes are better for foot soldiers while swords are better for cavalry. Sure, axes have less reach but they can do more damage and break shields. Also, in cramped situations like sieges, the short reach can actually be an advantage since you'll usually be able to execute an overhead swing even if your allies are around you while with swords you'll have to do alot of moving around (at least at higher battlesizes like 300 or more).
