[Viking Conquest] Personally, the post-ending disappointed me, but I would literally love this:
TL;DR: Do you want a continuing post-story, based on the in-game saga, for Viking Conquest?
(Compared to the current bland transfer from story to open world)

So I finally beat the amazing story, which was the most fun I ever had in a while. I read this fancy ending to the saga, about my character, then I just hit sandbox mode expected to find a different world. Nope, I just found the exact same thing.

This is where I was disappointed. It seems like the ending of the entire long, difficult(yet fun) story was a false piece of fiction. (I don't want smart-*sses saying stuff like "sagas are just stories" or "this game is fiction.") I would really enjoy it if completing the story had the same in-game effect as the saga ending, or at least an option for it.

This would be what I want(sorry for fantasizing):
You spawn somewhere special(the north tip of Northveg, or some empty island with a boat).
The world is a bit different, with your old army(normal units only) patrolling somewhere nearby, and your refuge how you left it.
Characters change, your old companions are findable in the same state as the saga says.
Special dialogue when charaters realize who you are, you can have the option to reveal it or not.
-
*Last but not least, optional quests based on the story(sorry if I make botched references, bad memory):
1. I'll come back with an army: Conquer the Kingdom of Friese, then talk to Thonkrik.
2. You will always be welcome here: Become a prominent figure in Northhymbre, again.
3. Bandit King: Join Solveig and lead thieves.
4. Promised Protection: Help Brunhild's family, or take them.
5. Vicious Viking: Pillage, loot or burn either every monastery or every village.
6. Unity from Chaos: Come back and save this dark world, conquer everything.

This is the "one" thing I want for this game. I know that even if the devs do happen to even see this, they would probably have better things to do, but even a simplified version of this would be amazing. I have no idea if this would even be wanted by the community, so that is why you are reading this, thanks.

I would normally say "NECRO!", but I appreciate someone actually commenting on this long thread. I still have this idea, so I hope a dev would see it.

Be interesting features to add, no doubt. I think you summed it up in general of what these sandbox-like games are missing when they throw story into it.

This is actually a very good idea, the ending kind of left me stunned with how abrupt it was, so this would be a nice option

this is the exactly same thing what i want, story broke my heart, the fact that i departed and Dwyne decited to find me was so strong. This makes me feel that the story shoul continue, that she will eventualy find me , the fact i had a lady out there that i was courting. A kingdom to serve and cities and armies to command. But they ended it, you have left everything behind, because u felt a void, you have became an soldier who killed many, jsut for one goal. And that is gone now, you are empty, the character in a game is described , that he shows no emotions. And i know how it feels, to stay cold. You have nothing left to fight for, it destroyes you. So you left, forever. The story was genial, and this ending farewel made it even stronger. It made me feel the void, that the character felt... this really felt like and END. Endo of story, with no redemption, nor satisfaaction.....just an over.... Nothing left for me....only a little grief for my companions that missed my charracter. That one thing is not finished. And it disturbes me the most. Will she ever find my character?

When I ended the story line, nothing prevented me from continuing. I have all my companions back, and am slowly uniting the map until Saxon rule. Find your own ending in sandbox.

This thread is old but I still believe in it.

If I wanted sandbox mode with my own "ending", then I would just select sandbox mode at the start of the game.

If I select story mode, then I expect an actual story mode. Yes, you still have your companions at the end and what not, but the ending of the story doesn't actually reflect what happens in-game.

Look, I know this is kind of old, but i really like your idea. I didn't create this awesome character just for him to go empty and disappear. He doesn't deserve that. It's a character that was and is destined to save that world. But not in the "continue in sandbox" way. I don't want to just continue. I want my character to disappear, continue living his life, and eventually find the strength to return. I want to bring back my companions, Dwywei, Brunhild, Beda, Caio, Agathinos, heck, even Helgi. And then take on the mission to save the North from its darkness.

This is how i approached it. I just ignored Beda's chronicling after the story about what happend, and continued to play like it was just after i killed Sven .

So i went and fought east engle under the northmbyre banner and demolished them. Then i left northmbyre and went and invaded Friese on my own like i told Thonkirk i would. Now im on my way to conquering the world, with allies of denmark and Northmbyre (for now) because of my work with them during the campaign.

If you wanna disappear and reappear with your companions later. Then simply leave Northmbyre (or west seaxe, whateer side you chose) after the campaign, go become a bandit for a year in game, then come back with your companions.

This is all available by me just dismissing Beda's story at the end, and ignoring that my character dissappeared. Solved.

I'd love for atleast part of it to be true. After story ended, I switched to another mod. I didn't like one bit that you ended up at the same spot, not after that "text wall" which described exactly what happened. I just didn't feel like continuing because of it:
"Hey, this guy you was playing as, well you know, he went somewhere, never to be seen again. So here you go, another character, just like him, in another, parallel universe, that didn't quit" - Nope, thx.

Not a bad idea, treating Beda's chronicle as pure fiction, maybe as the crazy ideas of an old man... but I don't think I wil get to that point soon. I just remembered there is a way to not kill Reginhard, so I will be about a game year back. But is there a way to let Bodo survive? I haven't found any
psychotron666 Mar 6, 2017 @ 1:30pm
I dont think i killed Bodo by the endgame. I think the last i saw of him was during the meeting with army that you have to intercept, and i was able to convince them to join me and leave bodo. I dont remember killing him, he just went back to west seaxe with his tail between his legs.

As for reginhard. I just played it that i thought i killed him, but he survived somehow. So i ran into him with his fleet of ships on the way to denmark once, and attacked him because he betrayed me but he got away again.
My character just sees him as a weasel rat that is hard to kill.
