If I wanted sandbox mode with my own "ending", then I would just select sandbox mode at the start of the game.
If I select story mode, then I expect an actual story mode. Yes, you still have your companions at the end and what not, but the ending of the story doesn't actually reflect what happens in-game.
This is how i approached it. I just ignored Beda's chronicling after the story about what happend, and continued to play like it was just after i killed Sven .
So i went and fought east engle under the northmbyre banner and demolished them. Then i left northmbyre and went and invaded Friese on my own like i told Thonkirk i would. Now im on my way to conquering the world, with allies of denmark and Northmbyre (for now) because of my work with them during the campaign.
If you wanna disappear and reappear with your companions later. Then simply leave Northmbyre (or west seaxe, whateer side you chose) after the campaign, go become a bandit for a year in game, then come back with your companions.
This is all available by me just dismissing Beda's story at the end, and ignoring that my character dissappeared. Solved.
"Hey, this guy you was playing as, well you know, he went somewhere, never to be seen again. So here you go, another character, just like him, in another, parallel universe, that didn't quit" - Nope, thx.
Not a bad idea, treating Beda's chronicle as pure fiction, maybe as the crazy ideas of an old man... but I don't think I wil get to that point soon. I just remembered there is a way to not kill Reginhard, so I will be about a game year back. But is there a way to let Bodo survive? I haven't found any
As for reginhard. I just played it that i thought i killed him, but he survived somehow. So i ran into him with his fleet of ships on the way to denmark once, and attacked him because he betrayed me but he got away again.
My character just sees him as a weasel rat that is hard to kill.
