Best floris archers/xbow

From looking at the units, it seems like a combo of swadian archers and rhodok crossbow are the best ranged units, vaegir might be better actually, but their helmets look silly and impractical to me with the big spire, just a giant lever asking to be struck by anyone with a sword/mace and break their neck, or atleast wrench it severely. Are they really much better in combat, or is the difference minor enough that im not handicapping myself?

The combat system doesn't really take the shape of armor into account, so the silly shape is meaningless. I recall that the vaegir archers have better bows, but I don't remember anything else. You might want to check the troop tree under reports to compare them yourself.

Heh, i know the game doesnt take into account impractical armor, i do though, i was more offering a reason why i dont use vaegir archers in spite of their being statistically better it seemed, and wondering if anyone agreed that swadia and rhodok have best other than them? i did check out the reports and thats how i came to pick swadian and rhodok, im just checking my conclusion against anyone elses.

I don't know about Floris, but in vanilla Vaegirs have the best archers (second only to Sarranid because the Sarranid are one point more accurate (?)) Rhodok crossbowmen do more damage though (obviously)

huh, id never actually looked at vanilla sarranid archers, had no idea they were better than vanilla vaegirs, hate going to that corner of the map, harder to avoid bandit groups i dont feel like fighting, In any case floris totally reworks the troop trees, in any case from what ive seen, barring the vaegirs with their pointy helmets i just dont like for vanity reasons, swadia longbow retinue and rhodok condotierre are best, so i guess ill just go with that.
