Can I get anything better than what I have? (outside of story)
I'm playing Viking Conquest and I'm trying to get the best non-story items I can

I now have:
Nad
Elf Shield
Elf Helmet
Scale Mail
+25 armour boots (forgot the name, something generic)
hardened gloves
heavy horse

I've had the armourers and weaponsmiths reinforce them as far as possible already.

I've looked at some of the item lists but theres a lot of conflicting information so I just got what most people were saying is the best.

Again, no spoilers for story please. It would be enough to say e.g. "you get a better helmet in the story" without any specific details of when

HOWEVER! If the item is missable then spoil me now please, I really hate it when I permanently miss out on something in a game!

Sorry just one more thing. The topic says someone got +1 agi from a sacrifice at Strange Ruins. However, that's where I found Nad. I did find people sacrificing peeps at Stonehenge in Wales but when I did that I got +1str instead. Was the topic talking about Stonehenge? Did he mistakenly say str or could it be that it randomly gives either str or agi?

My wife and I have not finished with the story yet, so we have not seen everything yet. But if your scale mail is the one that comes from the same ruins as Nad, there are definitely better armors to be found. For example, if you destroy enough Briton armies from the kingdoms that occupy present day Wales, you may get an elite Briton mail that is significantly better. I'll let you know the name and stats as soon as we load that character. You may want to post the stats of your equipment, so we can compare better.

Also, even my brand new character that has yet to leave Frisia on day 6 has better boots than that. Thick quality wrapping boots, weight 1.5 and leg armor 27.

Orms Lorica
+12 head armor
+58 body armor
+28 leg armor

Noble Helmet
+53 head armor

Quality boots
+27 leg armor

hardened gloves
+9 body armor

goidelic noble long sword
+38/18 Cut Damage

reinforced painted shield
24 resistance

Those are the best ive found afaik. hand and leg armors dont matter since the best you can find IS the leather gloves and the quality boots, just go to an armorer inside the "stroll trough the city/town" and Refine them to the best.

I have that Orms Lorica armor as its regular model, but i can Refine it still two times more at a armorer so its final stats would be Reinforced Orms Lorica 16-62-32. i think its the best armor ingame.

Noble helmet you can steal from your prisoner lords, although it gives you a MASSIVE reputation minus (-30 reputation) but you can easily get that back after you have a fief and get to decide on things which can give +25 reputation boost single time.

you can steal stuff, armors and weapons off from the lords by capturing them in battle and talking to them in party screen afterwards. also if they like you enough you can turn them into your religion.

Orm's lorica is from the ulf's farm in storyline. If you, well, kill Orm. Don't know if you can have it outside the storyline.
If you are in 2h, and have crazy high strength (21, 22 upgraded), you have the "troll's club", which is an axe. Troll's bridge, denmark. Usually, that means pumping everything in strength during character creation, and then some. But it's totally worth it, if you ask me.

Its Trolls Axe nowadays and not worth the amount of skillpoints it takes when you can just take a goidelic noble longsword and do 38C damage per swing, and it kills almost every single troop in the game one handed in one swing.

of course if you play on the super difficulty setting where you do half the damage and enemies do double damage THEN you might get some sort of use from the axe. although spears and archers will still drop you if you dont have a shield

I believe the berserker sheild is the best in the game if u can find it reinforced stats are (413/413) Resistance 25 Speed 85 Size 85. I found it as a loot item from a battle though, so not sure if u can buy it.

It's not worth it to go for trolls club since you could just have high agility and a weaker 2H and your character would move faster, attack faster and jump higher. 20+ str is excessive especially with only getting a +atrribute every 5 levels.

Elf shield is 463/463, 24 resistance, 70 size, 90 speed when upgraded.

So pretty even and a lot easier to get ;)

oh and almost forgot if you want a good piercing weapon for armored foes the goidelic short sword is good. Also a great siege weapon too as it is a stabbing weapon 34 piercing damage.
Elf shield is not very good at all actually. Way too small.

I use painted round shields for my party (the larger version). 85 size helps more than a few extra points of durability. They also have my heraldry on them which is nice. When upgraded to reinforced at an armorer they get just under 400 points and are otherwise similar in stats to the berserker shield. You can buy them from shops for pretty cheap too.

For a piercing weapon I just use a spear. A reinforced heavy spear does something like 23b/33p. I also carry a few throwing spears and a sword or axe as a backup weapon. I tend to choose swords focused on cutting damage over piercing because I find it easier to use slashes to get around enemy shields and I already have a piercing weapon. For axes I like decent speed and reach.

Piercing weapons though are quite useless compared to a good one handed sword. more kills per second, and there arent that many enemy troops that need piercing weapons used at them (since anything below heavy armor troops can be knocked down in 1/2 hits with a sword, and even 300 troop lords have like 20 heavily armored troops, just take them out yourself in 2/3 hits with a sword.)

Piercing weapons like spears could be good if there would be more heavily armored troops like in native, but since most armies consist of peasants low armor/medium armor troops, its kinda worth it to go for speed and kills/Min compared to just how much damage you can do with single hit.

I ride a horse in battle so the spear works well for that. After lots of practice in Brytenwalda and in tournaments I have become reasonably proficient at using a spear one on one on foot too. Spears are also handy for poking enemies from a defensive position. I like using the reach to get in a hit without risk of counterattack when I can. But if I am fighting mulitple enemies close in then of course I will switch to a sword or axe. Depends on the situation and it is nice to have options.

Thankyou. I don't get alogn well with spears, I find that a swinging weapon works far more effectively, I just ride at speed towards an enemy formation at an angle, they pull their weapons back to attacks, then I lure them into making a swing and missing, then turn in towards them and swing before pulling out. It's very fast and tends to headshot and do a ton of damage allowing me to very quickly eliminate a large group. When I use a spear it tends to do -80% speed damage randomly or get parried a lot, and it's often too slow to exploit openings and then I get counter attacked sometimes whereas with the sword it's just so fast and hardly ever whiffs
Thankyou for the advice on equipment. I do now have Orm's Lorica but will try to get the noble helmet
You find one better sword I think. Ulfberth, i forget the stats on it, Ive found a few while fighting some or other high end vikings, but I recall looking at it and concluding it was better than nad, I can start my game up in a second and look if youd like, otherwise, its definitely in the cheat menu if someone else wants to check before im free..

On the new topic of when to use spears, I tend to use them when im on horseback, or actually ship combat, i can sit behind my men or off at the sides and poke enemy soldiers while they are still on their ship, soften them up even more after i run out of javs to throw at them.

Im fairly sure elf helm is better than nobles, i think its same armor and slightly lighter, but im not certain on that. I always wear orms and the elf helm though, id wear the crown if i could ever find one, declare myself berserkr king.

Ulfberths sword is not good. it doesnt exceed NAD in stats, even goidelic longsword has more DPS.
