Spears vs. Lances
Is there some benefit to weapons with "lance" in the name? It's odd how they have lower damage than spears.

Also, how to you inflict "couched lance damage."

What exactly does Right to rule do, and how do I get more of it?

Doing couched lance damage is easy to do, all you need to do is ride your horse long enough with your lance out and you will get in position to do the exta damage. This took me a long time to figure out. High right to rule is important if you have your own faction, this will stop people attacking you because they don't think you should rule. Also if you want to be king or queen you need that high. i don't know how to get it.

You have your companions support you and you send them out to spread how awesome you are to rule. You ususally get around 1 to 2 points from this for every companion.

You can also get it by takeing over a castle and then forcing the faction that you stole the castle from to make a peace agreement with. This gives you quite the right-to-rule points. Unfortunally, this method tends to leads you getting attacked more often if its not high enough.

I had it were I only had 2 points to rule and when I took over a castle 3 factions declared war on me and I was died defending my castle to the very end.

Back to the spear vs lance argument, A spear is essencially a shortened lance. It does more damage but is less effective than a lance on horseback. With that said both spears and lances can stop horses if you stab a horse that is riding torward you. I reccomend playing multyplayer if you want to get really good at fighting. Once you get good at multyplayer the AI bots are laughably easy.

In what way is it less effective?

Spears are not as long as lances, and it is therefore harder to hit opponents on horseback with a spear. Furthermore, it is impossible to couche a spear, where as a lance can be couched by pressing the x button, which is the alternate weapon mode key.
