Lancers do more inital damage, but mamalukes can tank.
If you want good units, go Swadian Knight, If you want cheap and mediocre go Nord. Everything else is supplementary.
Lancers are more comparable to Sarranid Horsemen, costs a bit more but for the armour and skills is worth it. Also if in a pinch you will upgrade to Lancers before you upgrade to Mamlukes, with high training you'll start getting Lancers by night 3 vs Mamlukes night 4 due to the extra tier it has to progress through.
Obviously if you're looking towards the future, sticking with Sarranid Horsemen -> Mamlukes will pay off as they are the overall better unit in pretty much every way, except costing more.
Basically Khergit Lancers are the weakest top-tier heavy cavalry unit and their only advantage is that you can train them faster since they're a Tier 4 unit while Mamlukes and Swadian/Vaegir Knights are Tier 5.
2. Kegit Lancers/Swadian
3. Vaegir
Mamulukes Hit hard, and live long, however they take long to get too; and when they die, it hurts you.
Kegit and swadians have equal good cav (Kegit is more anoying due to range weapons), however in foot fights swadians have the upper hand. Also Kegit tend to faster, and the horses tend to be short lived.
Veagir are a mix of Lancers and Swadian Knights, armor of Lancers, Weapons of Knights, and a mix of fast and armored horses. Thus they are good over all, thus weak in one way compaired to others. This is my exsperience from 2000+ hours.
But seriously, the Knight vs Mamluke debate is as old as Warband:
Better armour vs more hp
Better weapons vs ability to take prisoners
Always has decent horse vs tiny bit less cost and better shield
I'd have to dig it up on the Talesworld forums but I'm pretty sure someone ran a bunch of custom battles between Knights and Mamlukes and the knights won. Not saying Mamluke is in any way worse per say, it's got versatility and utility on it's side. Just that a direct comparison between the two is a bit unfair. They both do their jobs just as well, Swadian Knights do it a little better, while Mamlukes can do other jobs Swadians could never.
I never said that trolls.
Did you remeber to turn difficulty all the way up ?
Mamlukes tend to when in a 1v1 against Swadian Knights.
And I never refered to Mamlukes as being swadian.
