And also, does it matter what speed of the horse?
The quality of the horses does not matter.
To move faster, in no specific order:
- Have a small party.
- Have high morale.
- Have a good path-finding skill.
- Have troops that are either mounted or have really high athletics
- Have companions either mounted or with really high athletics
- Compensate any trade goods in your inventory with extra horses
- Choose a path that stays away from bad terrain like forest
- Move in daylight
Here
Since that time, I no longer keep extra horses in my inventory, except for remounts if mine gets lamed, or when I am making trading runs.
Of course, the above may apply only to Gekokujo. But if you do any testing, please let us know the results.
I also noticed that there was a bigger jump in speed increase when having an extra horse in the inventory compared to having an extra mounted companion. That is to say I had 7 unmounted companions, and keeping a horse in my inventory gave better speed than giving that horse to one of the companions.
Maybe I'll do some real testing in native warband some time, but this info had already answered my original question, so no promises :)
