Why this game is so ugly?

It's really from 2010? GTAIV is from 2008 and even Painkiller from 2004 looks atleast 3x better than this. I can't get into this game because of it clumsiness and graphics. What went wrong?

Because the game doesn't focus on graphics. And for a game that doesn't focus on graphics, its pretty okay looking. A game doesn't have to focus on graphics to be considered a video game.

Sure, but with that graphics they focused to make it ugly. Really, it was hard to make something like that in 2010.

I don't think it looks that ugly. Not once you get higher tier armor anyway. But if you really can't handle vanilla graphics then mods do improve on those.

The issue is that it isn't your style of game anyway, from what I'd guess, and you just latched onto the graphics for no reason.

This is a really stupid question. Mount & Blade Warband was developed by a small company with very limited resources while GTA IV was developed by an extremely successful company with hundreds of employees and millions of dollars. It shouldn't be difficult to understand why one looks better than the other.

Then why Taleworlds Entertainemnt had 50 employees and People Can Fly 45 yet still Mount&Blade has worse graphics than 6 more years old game?

OP kind of has a point here.

As much as I love Warband, the GFX are just damn ugly.

If the game weren't *that* good, the visuals would have been a deal breaker.

And as I am wont to say (often), the game is not actually that good.
There are so many flaws and weirdly implemented mechanics in this game.
There's just no real alternative.

What it does, it does well (more or less), but the visuals....even the "new" Warband GFX additions don't completely gloss over the fact that it still looks pretty much like M&B underneath.

If it were a mere combat simulation, ok. But it tries hard to be an RPG, as well.
And even when RPGs, too, don't need good visuals to be awesome (big rouge-like fan here), the weird mixture makes Warband hard to endure for the uninitiated.

Long story short, it's an aquired taste.
Still the best worst game I have ever played.

Different focus. From the screenshots of Painkiller, its meant to be a close up, cinematic FPS experience. I never see more 10 NPCs on the screen and the level design is extremely linear. This contrasts from Warband which can have hundreds of NPCs and is set in an entire continent with a massive amount of different scenes.

Many mods like Perisno, Pendor, and Floris improve upon the graphics among other things. Maybe you can give them a try?

Maybe not Perisno, Try looking for Graphics mods for the game, there is quite alot and some of them improve performance!
