I got the original M&B legit for free. And perisno stuff.
M&B:

Shouldn't the developers fix this? I guess it would take some work, but still.
I basically just downloaded M&B from their website and typed in a random key (which was used by multiple people) and it accepted it. Mods work on it too.
Do the developers just not care because it doesn't make them much money or something?

Perisno:

The Dreaded One is near impossible to beat in Perisno, just saying. Backed by 500 or so level 60+ heavily armed and armoured units, he's pretty powerful. Especially if you put the difficulty as high as you can, like I do. How do I beat him? Money is not a problem and I can get mostly any type of unit. I'm my own faction.

Note: He single-handedly almost destroyed the entirety of the Maccavian kingdom. There were about 15-20 lords together, 3000+ soldiers, and they all were crushed.

Well people could always just do the morally correct thing and just not use this "cheat"

It isn't a cheat. It's there and it isn't complicated either. You don't need to do any extra stuff.

We are offering Mount&Blade through a try before you buy model. You can download the game and start playing right away. What you download is not a demo, it is the full game. There is, however, a level limit at 7. When your character reaches level 7, you can start a new game or, if you decide you like the game well enough, go on and buy a license online. As soon as you buy a license you will obtain a serial key which will remove the level limit. You will not need to download the game again.
(from the download page on the official site)
Key words : " if you decide you like the game well enough, go on and buy a license online". Buy, not "type a random key".
Doesn't seems legit to me to type a random key (or any key you find on the internet) and have it for free. Can you do that ? Yes probably. Is it legit ? I don't think so, unless I read otherwise.
Just like you can break into a house and take everything inside. It's not even that hard to break a window. Doesn't mean it's legit.

I call it a cheat because what else would you call it? A way to get a five finger discount on a game? But what you call it is besides the point.

The point is, is that if you aren't complete swine don't cheat a delevoper out of their money. So, for the sake of morality, you should probably not use that copy you got for "free".

morals kinda dont matter at this point since 95% of the players have been so happy they actually bought the game, just for the heck of it and steam achievements.

i used to first play a non-legal version of the basegame, not warband, for almost two thousand hours until i figured it was time to support the dev. Bought it off from their website (Both games, warband and the original) Just to support them.

Then now, in 2014, i decided it was time to buy it for my steam account as well. So ive bought the game many times just to support taleworlds. all because the free way of testing the game and playing it trough made me to.

A good game with a solid gameplay like warband, never should be afraid of losing sales because of warez. Witcher 3 doesnt have DRM (they saved bunch of money AND BUGS because of not using DRM) and look how many people have actually bought it. even im going to buy it, although i finished it already in an non-legal version.

Yet there is always the person who doesn't have your kind of honour and steals the game without buying it at a later date no matter how much enjoyment he gets from the title. These kind of people hurt the developers, no one can argue that point.

I doubt that 95% of the people who pirate this game actually bought it at a later date, after all, we don't have any stats to even remotely back this up. I actually wouldn't be surprized if 25% of the people who "own" mount & blade: warband actually have the pirated version, and never actually plan on buying the legal version, but then again we will never know since there is no evidence to back up anything about the stats of pirating vs. legal purchase.

This is what demos, and even steam refunds are for, after all, one shouldn't choose to pirate a game just "to test the waters" when there is perfectly fine demo; and especially now since there are steam refunds.

Every game should be afraid to lose sales to pirating, after all there will always be scum who have no sense of honour or integerity and pirate a game whether its good or not. You might pay for the legal verison if you like and enjoy the game, but do you really think the next person who pirates warband will?

its kinda pointless anyways to discuss about pirating, since its kinda like IRL crime. there aint a way to fix it, people find a way to go around it.
