Viking Conquest - Story: How do I not die at sea betrayal?
Hey all,

Let me preface this by saying that I love VC...but naval combat is the same as it always has been in the Total War series: I hate the hell out of it, don't care or want to learn it, and would like to skip it whenever possible.

So, i've gotten far enough along in the story that I can join the Danish fleet sailing for England, with half the fleet under Sven Bull-neck and the other under Harald. But when Sven attacks mid-trip, and you're commanded to flee, I don't know what to do. I tried to row directly away from them, but either my ship hits the edge of the map, or the wind is so bad it just turns me in a circle back towards Sven's fleet.

I really, really, really hate naval battles. And I know you can't fight him. I tried. I killed a couple of his men when they boarded my ships, and they just got back up. So i'm supposed to do something, I just can't figure out what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...really wish this game where better on directions.

u basically have to high tail that ♥♥♥♥ towards the corner/upper side kinda area and hope they dont catch u, save cuz it took me a few tries to actually escape

What I did, was as soon as I gained control of my character, I immediately hightailed it away from the Danish ships, using everything I had to not get drawn into melee, and then tabbing out of the battle as soon as I hit the invisiwall. It took me a few tries to be far enough away to work, but I did it.

Also, don't try to win that map - it is literally impossible as all of Sven's men have infinite health and can't die/fall unconscious.

You can move your ship using ENTER (sail) and key arrows (rudder). More info in your game notes.

I had that happen to me sometimes, my solution was to hire an assload of sailors so my ship was fast enough, even at full speed fleeing some faster enemy ships could catch me prior to that, but i got a bunch of sailors and managed to escape the next time, i dont know if sailors actually speed you up or they just claim it does, havent checked, I just know I survived after i hired sailors. I think the overreliance on invulnerable soldiers to make fights difficult leads to awkward situations like that, a boat with like 5 guys will reach you, and there can be no other solution once those men touch you but you all die, when reasonably you could kill those men and start fleeing again, but the main attacking force is just that much closer now and you have even less room for error.

the problem is not the steering of the ship but the fact that you hit an invisible wall and then cant leave

when the headless guy got back up and started swinging his axe, i realized it was hopeless. i just jumped overboard, knocked myself out from going underwater, and got credit for escaping.
