[Linux] Crashing on Inventory-Screen
I got VC recently and it's pretty unplayable right now, because sometimes the game just seems to "corrupt" and start crashing whenever I open the inventory screen.

First two times it started happening after I clicked "quit without saving" - after that, whenever I loaded my save and opened inventory -> crash to desktop.

Deleting the game and redownloading fixed it both times, but...with a 4 GB game that's hardly a reasonable workaround.

I could live with that, though - just never click "quit without saving".

But today, I loaded my save and - of course - it crashed again, this time after just quitting normally yesterday.
To add insult to injury, I redownloaded all the game AGAIN, backed up the files just in case (yeah, it took me 3 downloads to think of that >_> ) - but this time, it didn't fix the crash.

Oh yeah, rarely instead of crashing to desktop, the game freezes showing a half-loaded inventory instead needing to be killed from a terminal manually (with a '-9' flag, because it COMPLETELY freezes). I noticed that some of the objects on that frozen screen looked messed up, as if some of their shaders or textures didn't load.

Also experiencing this, but without a connection to the "quit without saving" option, because I chose to not have it at the beginning. Extremely frustrating, my 15 hour save is now trash because I cannot access my inventory.

Edit: I should clarify, I'm experiencing this in the base game, not Viking Conquests. I missed that in the title the first time.

A strace shows

See, it's hilarious that you would bring up that thread, because in that thread, you yourself identified this bug, diagnosed the reasons for it, all over a year ago, and you still haven't fixed it or offered a workaround.

You are right, generally players find solution in support and similar threads, in some cases it is more complex. However, for Linux or MAC problem you need to ask to TW in its support area:

I came across the same problem. But instead of re-downloading the whole game I just checked my game files (Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game files), which also fixed the problem and took less than a minute.

It's still not a real solution, but a quick work-around.

Validated files. I could open the inventory. Crashed after a battle. Validated again. Started to crash on inventory again.

I had this error yesterday. I just changed to windowed mode using mbw_config.sh (I generally find that games on my system act more stable in windowed mode) and it worked fine after saving it again from windowed mode.

Loading it initially from windowed mode was... interesting. I noticed on the inventory that the helmet wasn't displaying right so I unequiped and re-equiped it, which made my character's head disappear, along with everyone else's. It made for some weird dialog experiences. Eventually it did crash at some point, but loading the resaved game again worked like normal.

Try the following workaround:
Create a new game and save it.
Every time you want to load your old save, you first load the new one and click on the inventory and then quit without saving. Proceed to load the old save.
