Flails are not in-game because the animations would have been very difficult to make, and figuring out where the active/striking part of the weapon would be at any moment would be extremly taxing on the game's engine.
There is a type of falchion in the vanilla/native game. I believe they are called "cleavers" or "military cleavers", but they are a type of falchion. Ther is also a form of bardiche axe used by the vaegir faction which has a two handed and a longer pole-arm variety.
You can always look for mods that add more/new weapons to the game. None that I know of add flails, but I bet there is at least one that adds more falchions etc. I doubt any add flails though.
Thanks for the history lesson though.
As to Bardiches, they are in general a sub-type of glaive, with the primary difference being not blade type, but mounting and haft length. Indeed, what warband has labelled as a Voulge is actually better labelled as a bardiche.
Morningstar is probably the best weapon in the game (esp. Masterwork if you are lucky, but Heavy is fine too). Very high piercing damage, ability to carry a shield when needed, acceptable reach and speed -- all this doesn't sound godlike until you pair it with the ability to crush through blocks. It's not the easiest weapon in the beginning, but after some practice it makes you a killing machine both mounted and on foot.
Block crushing is somewhat tricky, it depends on momentum. 2h overhead is almost guaranteed and a swing from galloping horse too (I've never saw them fail, but they probably can).
And yes, Morningstars are one of the better weapons. I personally prefer military hammers, as they are just the right length that I don't have to actually aim for headshots, as well as being blunt weapons with like 32 base damage. They also swing pretty fast, and don't have the speed penalty from being wielded one handed the way the morningstar does.
The true morningstar is a 1 hand weapon with the head basically attached to the metal rod. It was kinda like a sceptor only had indentions of the metal to create a spiked look. Like maybe a pear on the end of a stick. ;)
There is also multiple types. The militia styled one being far different in construction from the ones professional soldiers used.
Only weapon i use is the bastard sword :(
In Guild Wars they call that a spiked club and give the animation of it. But, I haven't seen the short handle morningstar in a RPG game since the gold box series. Seems like they changed everything to real history for some reason. Even a Flail would be nice to play around with though and I don't see those either. Finally saw a Falchion today when I fitally was able to catch a Steppe Bandit army.
Some of the old Medieval movies show this short handled Morningstar too although they never said in the movie what kind of weapon it was. I just gathered from the gold box series it was a Morning star, but, the Black Knight seemed to always use one. No not the new movie the Black Knight lol but in movies like Ivanhoe and Camelot and maybe even Excalibur. Goes to show movies and tv can really mess you up on what is real and what is hollywood. :)
