The other way to use it is to export your character (making changes if you want) then starting a new game and naming your new character the same as the one you want to carry over. Then importing your old character to your new one. Doing this will not bring items, relations or appearances to your new character but all weapon skills, stats and currency will be transferred.
Your new character has to have the exact same name as the exported character.
So for example my character's name is ZirzoR i'm level 30, okay stats, i press export, it makes a TXT file with all the stats.
I make a new game, new character, name him ZirzoR.
Then i press import once i'm ingame, boom, i got the same character, but on a new save.
Hopefully this clears it up for you.
But i recommend to not do this, as it just makes the game really easy and might make you stop playing the game (Like most people when they cheat)
My brother did this on diablo 2, and man he stopped playing once he went back to normal, he found normal gameplay to be really crap, and then he stopped playing it.
So if you want to keep playing this wonderful game, stay away from stat changing and import/export, it just make the game so easy and dull.
If you wish to start fresh, THEN START FRESH.
Have a nice day :D
It is also possible to edit your stats and money this way. Export the character then go into document, Mount and Blade, characters. Open up the file named after your character and put in whatever stats you want.
Some mods like Clash of Kings feature permanent stat gain or more often loss. You can reverse these changes by exporting your character and modifying their file before importing again.
You can potentially give yourself 255 in all stats with 10 in all skills and 600 weapon proficiencies, however this will really make the game too easy and I don't recommend it. One thing I sometimes do though is give myself 10 prisoner management because I don't think you should have to specialise in an entire skill just to take people prisoners, it seems very silly and if random bandits can do it then anyone should be able to
