Immortal soldiers in Viking Conquest?
So I read in this one discussion called "How to heal my men?" that it was possible to level your surgery skill to 15, causing immortal soldiers, assuming your companions with medical skills aren't knocked out, but to get to the point, I tried it in VC and it doesn't work for me. I'm not sure if it's because I play sandbox Lordly mode or it isn't compatible with VC in general. Can anyone tell me why it doesn't work? I have a companion with maxed surgery level and a book that increases surgery +1 but nothing is displayed as 15 in the party menu.

just edit the exported characters skill to 15. That said, wont that remove a huge chunk of the game?

I know of no way to get Surgery 15 in Viking Conquest, nor in any other mods that caps skills at 10. (not all mods do)

The best you can get is a party Surgery of 14. You would need a natural Intelligence of 16 on you character. Then you would have to:
- side with a scholar in a city choice, which will take your Intelligence to 17.
- read a book that will increase your Intelligence to 18.
- invest 9 skill points in Surgery
- purchase and carry a book that will increase your Surgery to 10 for as long as you have it

This will give you an effective Surgery of 14, which even when added to the default chance of saving a downed man, will still not be enough to guarantee you save them all. In Native, the best you can do is save a bit more than four out of five. I have not bothered doing the math in Viking Conquest.

Companions, on the other hand, are truly immortal, I think. At least, I have not lost any yet.
Thanks for your replies! And Weizen1998, I already tried messing with the character stats on the import/export feature, but got no luck. And I asked this because I always wanted a Uber-Zerk army. Zerks aka Berzerks and Ulfhedinn are badass fighters. But making them invincible will crush any army. And it's a pain to go to the hofs to restock on them. :/ Also, here's the link to that discussion I talked about. http://steamcommunity.com/app/48700/discussions/0/846958724809685125/

They are unfortunately wrong then, or their information is highly specific to a certain mod, ive not seen books work like that, they can get you from 9 to 10, but if you have 10 it stays 10 as far as I know. Making the max 14, which is -almost- everyone survives, for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles I just sent an army of 200 men to fight a much bigger sword waving army when I had 14 surg, only 10-20 actually died, rest got koed. Not perfect, but its pretty damn good.

On the subject of the berserks, be careful, they can rage and start fighting your own people I beleive, that could get messy if several of them rage at each other.

It's safe to say that with surgery at 14, a 100 unit army facing a 500 unit army will lose like 20 soldiers.... DAMN....

Naah. This is only is you lose. Instead of relying on surgery, I prefer to make my guy into a killing machine, and take 300 of the 500 myself, leaving the other 200 for my men. Then you get victory screens like this[i.imgur.com].

Or you can just use only companions, who do not die in most mods.

Well, you can fall asleep if you let AI do everything so I get your logic :D
Thanks for sharing your ideas and clearing up that 14 is the max skill level for any skill! I got the information I needed, thank you guys! Feel free to discuss what you need on this thread, I don't mind. :steamhappy:

By the way do not try to get surgery past 15 by editing your character or any other method because it will break your save. The scripting is not able to handle it properly and may get it mixed up with another skill.

The above is true, and due to the way skills are stored in memory and in the saved game file. Multiple skills are held as 4 bits each in the same integer variable. If you make a skill larger than 15, you are overwriting the bits of its neighbor - if you were to make a skill 16, you would actually zero it, and make the next skill's least significant bit one.
Alright, I'll take note of that. Thank you Sohei and Tuidjy! Better fix that character file before I import some crap that destroys my character. :/
