How do I get Vassals?

I recently started an empire, and I want to know how I get vassals.

At some points lords will defect and get to your capital city, there you can offer them vasselage or send them away.
You could also make your companions a vassal

Three ways:

1. If you have town/castle/village that isn't assigned to anyone, some fief-less lords from other factions will appear in your capital's hall. If you talk to them, there will be an option to accept them. Some of these lords can have bad personalities though.

2. If a lord really dislike his current king and likes you more, you can go ask him to join your faction.

3. You can ask your companions to become a vassal.

Haven't played the game for some time. I think you can talk to them using the party menu.
