* Warbender
* M&B Save Game Editor
* Morgh's editor is the commonly used program to edit the game permanently.
Warbender seems (?) to be the more popular one. I've never used it but it looks similar in concept to Save Game Editor.
I use Save Game Editor simply because it's the one I tried first. Save Game Editor is pretty bare bones (I think Warbender is as well?), it's not very intuitive or user friendly since it's a simple program for free by modders.
if you use Save Game Editor, the top file path should be to the mod location. the bottom file path should be your save game. Then load the save. When you're done, export the save. When exporting the save, I recommend not saving over your old save in case you make a mistake.
if you want to edit your party then go to "Troops" and go down to the unit numbers for your companions. You can't directly modify skills but you can give skill points to distribute once you reenter the game. Say, give 10 skill points that you can then place in Engineering when you enter the game. You can modify attributes, so you can put Intelligence at 30 if you want but you won't get the associated skill points unless you add them yourself (same as import/export of a player character).
If you want to start a new game, it's much, much easier to use Morgh's. It's fairly user friendly and polished (for a free program). Morgh's edits the module itself, not the save file. Therefore Morgh's changes are permanent for the mod, meaning you can set a Companion to have 10 Engineering (without need to bother with attributes or skill points) and that companion will always start with that whenever you start a new game. You can changes almost anything about them and not have to worry about it again.
Since Morgh's is editing the module, it doesn't touch your save file. So if you want to continue with a save game I'm pretty sure it won't help your companions. It should, however, affect items like make food last longer (ie, change a food from 90 to 300). I assume other item changes like improved weapon damage would be applied as well but I've never done it.
