a clash of kings is ridiculous.
How the hell am i suppose to do anything when i barely do any damage, like really 0 damage?
this mod looked so cool but it's just too frustrating...
seriously am i doing something wrong here? i really want to play this one but the way it is balanced is just silly.
Any advice would be welcome

Join a lords army, thats the best way to lvl up so you can start doling out the death blows.

So true. The author is probably a big fan of GoT and knows a ton about it, but not so much about Warband. Though it is a good mod for M&B, it needs to be balanced. I've seen campaigns begin and before a single castle is even taken.

ACoK can be a rough mod for new players. The damage was pretty well balanced when I played it quite a few versions ago. A few items were unbalanced but overall not too bad. The most difficult part was having enough income to pay for a large army because troop costs were pretty high and the map layout made some ways of making money more difficult.

I got started by doing arena melees to get the hang of the gear and upgrade my own a little bit. You bring your own gear to the melee so it starts out rough but gets easier as you upgrade. Not going to get rich doing them but you will improve weapon proficiencies a bit. One other nice thing about them is that time does not pass. This is important because there are scripted events in this mod based on how many days have passed so you kind of have to hurry if you want to be set up well when they happen.

Another option would be to export your character after you level them up and get some cash and then import into a new game.

allrighty, i managed to stop getting rekt by all the peasants around when i "borrowed" one of my companions arming sword and his armor, made my life easier. I'm gonna stay out of the big fight for a while though, cause i've seen lannister armies defeat northerners parties that were twice as large (still no clue regarding how it happened), and running around to find your commander ain't that awesome. Simpler to mind my own business and raise my stormlanders. Also quests are fun, nice references to the books

I found maces are very nice in that mod.

I found a horde of top tier cavalry to be effective.
yep, i second what you said about maces, stormland dudes wielding two-handed warmaces usurper-style are real killing machines

Real swords don't do much damage unless you hit with the tip, and it seems the author incorporated this into the mod. Unfortunately the AI isn't sophisticated enough to handle this and in a tight melee like sieges they can;t swing the weapon properly resulting in lots of zeroes

Maces have a short max range but also a short minimum range, meaning they can be used really close up without whiffing. Unsullied short swords similiarly are a short range weapon. Riverland knights carry maces, but the Riverlands was edited out in the new version so I don't know which other faction has mace knights. Unsullied are also pretty badass

I suggest you get yourself a horse and a crossbow. Roam around looking for infantry deserters. Position your horse so it is facing away from them and stay still. Just as they are about to enter striking range spur your horse on. The infantry will lower their shields and raise their weapons but not swing because you are now out of range so quickly ride a few metres then stop and shoot them in the face before they can get their shields back up. When you are down to the last one or two enemies you can switch to your mace and smack them over the head for some 1H weapon skill and prisoners

Alternatively join a faction and then join in on sieges. Have your guys stand back and help them clear the walls of archers, then get on the ladder. Soldiers will stand there with their shields up, but if you start moving towards them they lower their shields and raise their weapons in preparation to hit you as soon as you get close enough. Twitch towards them to make them lower their shields then shoot them in the face. If you find yourself getting too close then take a couple of steps back then start twitching towards them again. You can get a ton of exp this way

For cash I recommend you buy iron at Lannisport and sell it in the cities around and including King's Landing, there's like 5 cities over there that all pay high prices for Iron. There's a reason they call it the gold road!

Heh. Real swords do not cut the limbs of people off wearing chainmails and plate, the way Hollywood likes to show us. But in reality, it takes really good armor to be able to shrug off a good blow from a longsword, and momentum is momentum.

Clash of Kings is made by someone with no clue about how Warband works. He has maces that are shorter, lighter, and flimsier than a longsword, but which are still more effective against armor, because he has fискеd with the armor blocking and deflecting parameters. The same way he has done with the map size, ranged weapons, unit formations, the siege maps, the troops' weapons and upgrade paths, and... pretty much everything else.

A good player takes a look at the weapon stats, sees how troops behave on the field, notices lords struggling with the map (the author did not tune the AI's sense of distance)... And he then has to decide whether he will enjoy cheesing the unbalanced mess.

Trying to play Clash of Kings is an exercise in frustration. If you are a fan of the show, enjoy the sights, do the quests, and meet the cast. But if you want a good Warband experience, find a good mod.

Try a Land of Fire and Ice mod I think it's called? It's more balanced.

I played ACOK pre-3.0. It was fun seeing some of the sights and roleplaying for a bit. But, after that, it became largely a "broken Warband" experience. Combat AI was stoopid and the map was just too ginormous for the AI to deal with. Overall AI strategy suffered, greatly.

It had some interesting mechanics, here and there, and some nice ideas in certain places, made necessary by its devotion to lore. But, there are much better playing Warband mods out there.

Next update for ACoK should be to fix all those things!

I have found all mods to be less than what I would consider ideal in one way or another. I guess I should make my own mod.
