Book Reading
How can I get my character to read a book? He learned to read at a monestery, bought two books, but there seems to be no way to get him to read. Typical teenager.

Then your character will advance the reading while you are resting. Take some days even if you just wait in a town for time to pass.

Did you also give your character a high intelligence? I had mine learn to read too...only then did I notice the minimum intelligence requirements for all of the books.

I have three books, the three that don't have these requirements.

Apparently, my illiteracy blinded me to this problem.

It's taken nearly twenty levels (and counting) to get my strength up high enough to use the Troll's Axe...maybe when I get to level 75, I'll have enough intelligence to try reading a book?

White knight, My character had the lowest possible starting Intelligence - 4, but got +1 from a city event, and +1 from a sacrifice to the old gods... So all it took for him to read the leadership book was a single increase of Intelligence.

You also have three books that are useful even if you do not know how to read. I guess you are just looking at the pictures in the training and medical manuals. Which makes some sense.

While we're at it, how many books are there in Viking Conquest? Are they the same we have in the native game? Do they give the same benefits? Do they have the same intelligence requirements?

Just planning to meta-minamax Viking Conquest when I eventually purchase it.

The types of books available are the same but the titles have changed.

Cheers. This also explains why the wiki didn't list them.

There is at least one extra book - +1 to persuasion, as long as it is in the player's inventory.

If you want to min-max, you may want to also take into account that there are other items that improve stats by being equipped. For example, I have come across a tunic that boosts trading.

I think my intelligence is 6 and I haven't found any books I could actually read. Then again, I probably stopped checking in with the Book Merchants too soon? The new +1 Persuasion (picture book) is something I'll have to look for.

I have the Emissary's Tunic and it says that it offers a bonus to something but doesn't specify. I assumed that was Persuasion but it would be interesting if it were actually Trading instead. That would be a lot more useful to me.

My character is a little over 30th lvl (like 33 maybe?) and I need one more point in Strength to get me to 22. Hopefully they don't change the Strength requirement on the Troll's Axe again. I used it for a short while at 21 Str. but then it got updated...grrrr.

The remainder of the points will go to Intelligence and Charisma.

I love the idea of my character walking around with books in his backpack, so he can stop and look at the pictures from time to time. That seems wonderfully appropriate.

This news about sacrificing to the gods giving a permanent attribute bonus is amazing. Are you talking about the option you get at the start of most battles? All I ever got was a small bonus or penalty to morale...which I keep high by fighting battles, so I just stopped doing it.

The sacrifice was not before a battle.

It was at one of the special locations, but I am not sure which one. There were multiple circles of standing stones, and you had to talk to a old man to get the whole thing going.

Cool, something to look forward to then.

Thanks.

The sacrifice is at a standing stone area somewhere around where modern Northen Wales would be. It is the same place that you can find a female scout companion. Talk to the priest standing in one of the stone circles and ask about the old gods. Make sure to bring along a few thousand in coin to pay for the ceremony. I suggest saving before the ceremony. The buff you get is one of a few possiblilties at random and there is a chance you will get nothing. I think you can only do it once.

The list of books available appears to be similar to those that were in the Brytenwalda mod. So if you search for what those do you should get an idea of what most of the books in VC do.
