Conquering Everything
So I've got this strange situation where I'm the marshal of the Nords and I own well over half of the cities and castles on the map. The others are owned by the Nord king even though he didn't do anything to conquer them. There are no other lords, they all sort of ran away. There are heroes and my wife, but I haven't given them anything yet, they seem to be alright with that.

Now, what I want to do is conquer everything. The problem is I don't know what the best way to do that would be. I tried renouncing my allegiance to the king, but that makes me lose all my castles with all the garrisons. Taking them back would be a pain. I guess i could empty the garrisons right before, but where would I put them? My max party size is around 125. Meanwhile the king runs around with 600 guys, which is a really difficult battle.

What do I do? I should have formed my own kingdom earlier, shouldn't I?

I guess I can kill him if I renounce my allegiance or at least make him my prisoner, but I lose all my holdings in that case. I want to keep the castles and cities I already have and just conquer the ones he has.

Can't do that really. Did you try talking to the pretender? Although... in the end you end up with the same deal.

Empty the garrisons and just take them back.

But where do I put the soldiers? Disband them or put them all in one castle? And how do I kill the king with his huge army? Is it going to decrease as I take more castles?

Keep demanding to be given castles/towns you capture, eventually the king will refuse and then you can rebel (different from renoucne), which will let you keep your lands and automatically form your own side.

King's army will be a problem, you'll need to get some nobles on your side to join you in battle against him.

Hmm, I'll try that. Everything has already been captured, though. Not sure whether I can ask for them afterwards.

Any castles or towns you own you can keep in a rebellion but villages will go with whichever faction owns the attached castle or town. You only get a chance to demand fiefs right after you capture them and you get the message from your King refusjng to give you the fief. You have a choice accept the decision or not. You will then get a choice of giving up your fiefs and going peacefully or keeping them and starting a rebellion. If you have lots of fiefs and some friendly lords that might support you, choose rebel. If you make another decision your opportunity to rebel passes until you are refused another captured fief.

The problem is, all castles and cities have already been captured, so I won't be able to start a rebellion. Is it possible to give away a castle to an enemy faction, like bandits?

I tried emptying a garrison from a castle, declaring war on the king, taking the castle, and waiting for him to attack. He lost over half of his 700-strong army trying to take it. I love defending. I even managed to kill the 300 leftovers with whatever I had left in my army. However, when I kill kil or when he runs away, he retreats to Sargoth and just carries on. I thought if I killed him I'd take over his kingdom.
You cant kill kings and lords, but you can keep them as prisoner

Might as well just renounce yourself or start over... same thing. Probably should've thought about this ahead of time.

Someone suggested this already, but have you tried finding Lethwin Far-Seeker? If you pledge yourself to him it will start a war between you and Ragnar. If you play your cards right you will eventually get a chance to rebel against Lethwin and start your own kingdom.

Try this, you should be able to piss your king of somehow and start a revolt against him http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=285119009
It works with native save games

Lethwin only hangs out in cities belonging to other factions, there aren't any left.

If I captured the king, could I make him give me his kingdom? Nobody would come to save him anyway.

Yes, I should have rebelled after taking the last enemy city on the map. Is there a way to edit savegames maybe?

I'll try the diplomacy mod. But I want to get the achievement for capturing the whole map.
you get achievements in mods, I got the achievement for conquering the whole map in Floris

FYI, with the diplomacy mod you get an option to rebel when you talk to the king and choose to renounce your allegiance. You keep all your fiefs then.

I already destroyed his main army and am slowly pushing him back city after city. :)
