Training Troops
I need to ask what's the best way to train in a training field?

I already know that my troops get more EXP in an actual battle, however I don't risk losing too mnay troops simply because they were at a lower level.

One of the questions I have is that, in sparring, is it more beneficial to spar with high level troops to give EXP to the low level troops, or is it better to spar the low level troops directly?

low levels. But if you need to train an army I recomend getting 100-500 recruits (100-500g a month) and never leveling them up. The reason for this is that the trainer skill gives greater daily exp based on the number of units you have. On top of that recruits are dirt cheap and you don't have to do anything. With over 100 recruits it is easy to train elites in no time.

Spar with low level troops directly unless you want to put points into trainer skill. However, I think doing the other training things gives more xp to your troops, like hitting targets with polearms or throwing knives or whatever actually gives a lot of xp to troops.

Lots of companions with a high training skill. You should also have a high training skill.

You can ge high tier troops essentially by traveling around.

That's the way to do it. Sparring with your troops at a training field is only worth it very early in the game. The more troops you have, and the higher level they are, the less effective it becomes.
Train for real. Real for train...

Always select the maximum number to fight. Fight the troops that you want to train. Focus on large troop stacks over small stacks. Delay promoting them until the entire stack is ready to promote or you are done training and want to enter a battle. Getting the first couple of ranks is fast. Once they are at mid ranks it is going to take a lot of training to get them up further so it may be better hunting bandits at that point.

Lots of companions with training skill helps by giving bonus xp at midnight each day. Each character gives xp to all other characters and troops that are lower level than they are. The effect is most noticeable if you train up companions and give them each trainer skill early in the game. This will pump up their leveling so that they can be higher level than more troops and have more skills themselves.
