Sea raider > Nord recruit?
Why do Sea raiders become Nord recruits after upgrading them? Sea raiders seem alot more powerful than Nord recruits to begin with, it doesn't really make any sense to me.

I've wondered that myself. I think the Bandit types would be better off just staying as they are. They're pretty much desperation troops as it is.

Keep em as sea raiders. It is not worth upgrading

For the same reason that, in real life, gang members who go through boot camp become privates. You break their spirit, you teach them discipline, you train them to do things the right way, and you rebuild them into something that can learn and improve.

It is up to you whether you will make them into soldiers or leave them as thugs.

Why would you upgrade the only cool bandit unit? Plus I don't think Nords in general are an organised army. They are just Sea Raiders who have settled in Calradia

And get attacked by unsettled sea raiders.

It's like when Danes invaded England and raided the Saxons who were actually people just like the Danes who settled there

Upgrading bandit types is probably only worth it for forest/mountain bandits and looters.

Exactly. One may argue that you may wanna turn those Sea Raiders to Huskarls, but it isn't worth the time

It wouldnt exactlly make sense for a random criminal to hop into a lords retinue as an elite now would it? Sea raiders are roughly equivalent in melee combat to most nation's 3rd-4th tier infantry, as far as equipment goes at least, it's been a while since I checked on their power strike and ironflesh, but yeah.

They aren't random criminals. They are Tire 3-4 Units commanded by their respective leaders

Aren't outlaw type units also alot harder to maintain a proper morale with?

Except that they are very much so criminals of a non-noble background under calradian law. This on it's own would make most nobles extremely wary of taking them into their company, let alone as elite warriors.

Well wouldn't the Nords hire them? After all they are the same kin

No, they aren't. If someone broke into your home and stole all your electronics, would you then turn around and hire them at your IT company? That is essentially the relationship between the nords and sea raiders. Or you could also compare it to the relationship between pirates and the british crown. That was not a peaceful one.
Vandal Savant Mar 20, 2016 @ 8:39am
I doubt the sea raiders acknowledge or respect Ragnar's kingship, either.
