Report a translation problem
For example...Say you enlisted in the Empires Army...and then worked your way up to being a Reiksguard Knight (spelled wrong? but you get the idea) You would then have to find a human companion (who wasn't a chaos human) to wear your stuff. That way you can keep your promotion items after you stop being in your lords army. They won't take away items in a companions equipment slot...!
While freelancing your party will go away quickly. So, this is best done in the early part of the game.
In this particular mod there are many restrictions on items based on race and faction. Weapons and shields however should be usable without restrictions.
This is the best method.
Oh? Wow, I hate that! I used to like joining up with Freelancer to play around on the battlefield... :/ It was a fun way to see a lot of the units with little/no personal risk. :)
