The Wooden Stick [UPDATED!]

I rifled through some bandit loot in Vikings, and a couple of the guys were carrying Wooden Sticks. What boggled me was that these were things you could buy and sell. Frisia has a lot of woods, you could simply pick up a stick and bash someone with it for free gratis. Or you could go to the weapons boutique and purchase a wooden stick off the rack, I suppose. You're just paying for the designer label, though, since the weaponmaster's wooden stick looks, feels, and acts exactly like a wooden stick you could break off from any tree for yourself in town.

The picture of the wepaons is indeed a wooden stick, like a bit of a fallen tree branch.

Here's the interesting part: there's also a Crude Wooden Stick, which is exactly like the Wooden Stick, except not as refined and it does less damage somehow. I guess that's the Walmart version. If you can't afford a regular wooden stick, you can get the dollar-store wooden stick.

Is this the worst weapon in the game? I have a feeling that these must be incredibly rare, since probably using your bare hands would be more effective.

EDIT: I've just disarmed someone wielding a Bent Wooden Stick, which somehow is even worse than the Crude Wooden Stick.

Same thing with the Stones.

I feel like ther should just be an "Aquire Wooden Stick and Stones" option. Like, can't we just pick them up? Off the ground?

Well stones I can see a market for, since you want round stones that fly true. So there is a tiny bit of skill involved in stone acquisition.

When you apprentice as a weaponsmith and you fail, I guess you go from picking up stones down to finding wooden sticks. And if you fail at that, you go down to picking up crude wooden sticks.

After hours of questing, I now have all three. You wouln't believe how much blood I had to spill to do that, since the game engine forbids you from collecting them off of trees. Now I'm worse than Stalin times Hitler.

The wooden stick is the only mass produced blunt weapon in VC, others than that are quite rare to find and expensive to acquire.

Wooden Stick Update:

I discovered a fourth Wooden Stick: Cracked Wooden Stick. Apparently, it's a Wooden Stick that's been used for beating people so much that it cracked from overuse. How you could get that much mileage from using a Wooden Stick as your main weapon and not be killed is something I will have to investigate. Mind you, I did kill the bearer of the Cracked Wooden Stick in fair combat (I had some kind of masterwork broadsword or something), so I'll never find out how he did it. Unless I take the country myself by force of Cracked Wooden Stick...

True. But these things are manufactured. Presumably a weaponsmith would make them. A quarterstaff isn't rocket science, but a really nice one might be tricky to make for somone as unskilled with woodworking as I am. A club, however, anyone can make a crude club. But it still likely should be made, i.e. you wrap something around the hitting end to prevent it from being a stick.
