Viking Conquest, how to make money, EZ.
First off. You want to pick a merchant class, although this can work with just about any class.
1. The best way to make money is to sell wool and mead to dorestad.
You can buy wool and mead from the towns and easily get 2x to 3x profit. Also remember to look around the villages for cheap goods. There's been times when I've come across wool selling for as little as 20-30 gold.

2. Mead will also bring in some decent income as well. Try to get it for less than 200 gold for maximum profits.

3. Even if you don't have a ship you can still get to Dorestad by paying someone to take you there. It's best if you do this at one of the closest ports (such as Lundenwic.) because it's cheaper to than if you were to pay to be transported all the way from northern scotland all the way down to Dorestad.

4. Once you get to Dorestad buy as much gold, wine and salt as possible. These will all sell for high premiums on mainland Britain.

5. Once you've accumulated a large sum of money, start buying farms in the cities, these will bring you a steady profit which you can use to pay your men. Once you get enough of them you will begin making profit without having to actually work for it. Brewerys, Ironworks and Weavery's are your best bet. Be sure to check how much profit you will make before you buy a property.

That's it. Enjoy your riches and use them to hire a company of Mercenaries to establish your own kingdom.

I still play it a lot. I like the time period, the overall challange, etc... Not to mention, before VC, Brytenwalda was my main mod.

I think it is the best mod right now, and when I want to just lop a few heads in a small battle, I go brigand hunting in Viking Conquest.

How is Brytenwalda compared to VC? thats one of the few mods ive never played yet. Ive heard its similar but earlier?

If its pretty good ill give it a try, otherwise was probably going to go back to VC after i get tired of gekokujo this time, since nova aetas is making me rather annoyed with that colony building bug, and L'aigle just doesnt do anything for me somehow, all the factions were real ones that I just dont care about, and every fight is standing in a line on a hill with gunners and cannons while the other side dies horribly, bogged down by a handful of companion cavalry troops.

It's been a long time since I played Brytenwalda but from what I remember it's pretty similar, although it lacks some of the features of VC and only takes place on the island of Britain. Wheras VC takes place on Britain, Northern Germany and Scandanavia.

I'm pretty sure the people who made Brytenwalda also made VC.

So its earlier in time and more confined. May give it a look.

Well, Brytenwalda doesn't have a story mode. I'm pretty sure it has ships though. But yeah, it's in an earlier time although the gameplay is very similar. Basically, if you like Brytenwalda, you'll like VC. That's why it's kind of a good mod to try to see if you should buy VC or not.

I guess if ones true the reverse also likely is, and since i like VC, Bryten will probably be interesting. Anyway, thanks, derailing over.

Fair enough but yeah, you'd like Brytenwalda by the sounds of it.

It's been long time but my tactic is simple,do a low reputation, discover a bandit camp, then defeat one bandit group(vikings have a good loots btw),sell loots in bandit camp.If you beat viking group you may take 30k peningas worth loots. Then you can open brewery everywere so you will start pay your soldiers wages

Edit:You can even create a masterless men for killing them and taking their loots if you have well equipped prisoners .To do so you must have one bandit leader in prisoner and well equipped prisoners for good loots. If you have them, talk to bandit leader and order to attack random settlement or lord, then they are becoming masterless men.If you need soldiers, you can take them just giving money and losing some morale(much lesser than just taking soldiers from prisoners)
