If waiting for a sure thing isn't your cup of tea, maybe using the cheat Ctrl+T might work better? The internet says that is how you can reveal all units on the world map.
FYI, those types of quests will endear you to the worst lords in your faction while upsetting all of the best ones. So unless you have a plan and know what you are doing, those quests are best avoided.
There are other "bad quests" to avoid - here's a few examples of ones I hate to do...all cattle quests, the Mayor who asks you stop a war, tax collection in the early game, rescuing prisoners from jail in the early game, tracking down "looters", etc. Once you have some skill points built up, a lot of these quests become really easy but until then, I avoid them. Polearm skills help a lot - since tournaments loooove to stick you with a spear as often as possible, it can be a useful skill to work on.
Spotting helps you to see things further away, that would help with finding specific units as well.
Caravans do not go to castles, so if Praven is the only city, that is where all their caravans will have to go...eventually.
It's been a very long time since I took one of those quests but I seem to recall that razing villages is a great way to upset people. If razing "a village" has no effect, go raze three more and I suspect someone will have something to say about it.
Best of luck.
