The healing rate is increased by resting in camp, more in a settlement, and even more by resting in a city inn. The "Wound Treatment" party skill also hugely speeds up recovery, as long as the character with the skill is not unconscious.
The "First Aid" skill help immediately after you have been injured, but not in recovery. "Surgeon" does not affect the player or the companions in any way.
In other mods, there are other ways to heal wound - special abilities in Silverstag, leeching weapons and different spells in Phantasy Calradia, city physicians in Viking Conquest, etc...
Would reccomend giving companion these skills, Jeremus (or whatever his name is) already starts with a few
