Hardest castle to take
Which castle in your opinion is the hard to take, More due to layout than troops garrisoning it. Some are harder than others.

There was one castle i had to take someone i think in Rhodok or Nord territory in which the castle started at a platou and the attackers (Me and the rest of the Swadian Hord in this case) Were forced to climb a hill along a narrow route before even reaching the ladder in which we were constantly bombarded by 3 side because the ladder went inbetween two sides of it either way the place was loaded with arrows... many men were lost that day. Another thing that made it hard was the fact ranged attackers had no where good to stand because the defenders were guarded and lining up the archers would have blocked the infantry from scaling the ladders. We eventually took it but it came at a huge cost

Was it grunwalder? i lost so many men there due to Rhodok sharpshooters And the same conditions TheHipDuke had that i gave up, i was only attacking it by myself if i had some lords and their men to be arrow fodder i might have done it.

Grunwalder is kinda infamous yes.

Ibdeles Castle is probably tougher to take than Grunwalder. You get shot from the side as you approach so shields are less effective. Lots of long high walls makes hunting down archers time consuming. There is also a second courtyard so you could get bogged down in the gateway.

Grunwalder on the other hand can be dealt with by just spreading out archers and sending them on ahead to the foot of the ladder. They will trade fire with the defenders and draw their attention while you move infantry up. Once infantry is close it is just a normal siege.

Almerra Castle can also be tough depending on the units on each side. The attackers are surrounded by archers at close range while they enter the courtyard and climb the ladder. Everything is tight so archers are going to hit somebody even if they miss their target. Accuracy and penatration are also maximized because of the short range. If the attackers fail to counter snipe the archers and get bogged down by strong infantry it can be a bloodbath.

Actually any of these three are good castles to take early on despite the difficulty because it will be so easy to defend against the AI attackers even when vastly outnumbered. I have succesfully defended Almerra Castle even while outnumubered 10 to 1 with full damage settings and mediocre troops.

i find it depends on just who and what is garrisoning the castle/town more than anything
as for keepers i like to get castles/towns that require seige towers as this gives you or your marshall army time to get there before it is taken
i like dhirim(weak garrison after all the fighting) and rivacheg(rich with good farming close) for my first picks
kings army usually wont help meriga in rivacheg either, leaving only his family to deal with

Praven

Unable to use the archer/crossbow_spam technique due to the horrible map design, as a result it became a horrible meat grinder for my army.

Tihr/Sargoth

Again bad map design, your army is spawn roughly 20 feet away from the wall which is not a big deal if those guys on the wall are not nord hurscal or warriors. Several times, i was instakill upon spawning from a hail of javelins.

I just went and checked out ibadibadibbles castle and aljezera castle and they both look like they could be a royal pain in the arse to take, in my game both are well garrisoned by rhodok sharpshooters and sergents plus assorted lesser troops. i need a holy hand grenade of antioch :-]
This castles that are GLITCHED and the siege ramps or ladders are stuck at the top of the emborsers so that the defenders are chopping at ankles and it's virtually impossible to breach the wall. lol As soon as this game started getting patches tot eh programming it's had issues. You cannot even win a Pretender King's campaign anymore. It doesn't even ever end now and sometimes you can't even find the enemy king you're against once you have conquered the kingdom. They disapear by themselves. ??? There's just issues sadly. There's so much more they could've done witht his game. Bandit chain quests... more Heroes/Allys to acquire... so much more of hte map and the game unused man. They should've kept expanding Warband.

Pretty sure thats a bit off topic...

Almerra is considered the hardest because the laders spawn inside a four sided coutyard where you are fired upon by rhodok sharpshooters from all sides.
Not fun at all
Grunwalder and Trilibit are also some harder castles because you have to walk up a hill to get there, but Trilibit castle is usually a nord castle, so that intire hill just becomes more of a annoyance than an actually threat

I just took chalbek castle from the nords and it was just a nice walk in the sun well...for all the guys that lived it was, but im not looking forward to Almerra castle or Ibdribble or brunehilder castles
Wunis Aug 11, 2014 @ 6:26am
Almerra. You have to walk through the gate (to my memory), and then you're stuck in a giant killbox of archers. If the Rhodoks still have it, you are screwed by the Sharpshooters.

Wercheg is next on the hit parade, its the nords last place after that no more nords, shame cos i didnt mind the nords the sarranids are another matter. Wercheg is garrisoned by about 450 dudes mostly nords what soldiers make the best assult troops ive been useing my ole faithfull rhodok sergents, sharpshooters with my dismounted mamlukess and filled out with hired blades.
