Swaybacked happens when a horse get lamed multiple times.

There is no recovery from swaybacked, though lame should fix it self after a few days/week

If you manage to injure a swaybacked horse into being lame, that will replace swaybacked, and then you can let it heal from lame, and it will just be a horse without modifier.

Of course, be prepared to lose your horse if it dies instead of being injured lame. It is not worth the hassle in my experience, either.

In native, I have never had a swaybacked horse become lame. If they are seriously injured they just fall dead.

Horses that have a negative modifier are more likely to die outright. I do not know the exact numbers. As above, I would say it is not worth the hassle to attempt it. However, it can be done.
