How does Trainer work?
Okay, I've been playing this game for 1000+ hours and one question I have always had is one specific mechanic about Trainer.
I find, that when there are troops ready to upgrade, other troops of the same type gain experience faster. Is this true?
Also, I feel like if you have more of a single type of troop, the whole entire stack of that troop gain experience faster.

First a few rules:
1) Training has only an effect when the skill belongs to the player or to a companion.
2) Training only works if the trainer is higher level than the trainee.
3) For training to work, both the trainer and trainee have to be conscious at the time of training.
4) The experience gained depends on the trainer's skill value.
5) The experience gained by each trainee does not depend on the level difference with the trainer.
6) Training from different sources fully stacks.
7) Training experience if gained once for every single conscious soldier in a troop stack.
8) The total experience from training is applied to the whole troop stack, not a bit to each troop.
9) If the stack experience is more than needed for a single upgrade, the remainder is reapplied.
10) If all troops in a stack are ready to upgrade or max level, the experience is wasted.

And the actual experience table.

What does this mean?

Well, first the most important thing: at high character levels, with high values of Training, and large troop stacks, Training is amazingly powerful.

Also, Training fully stacks, so it is worth to maximize Training for every character's Intelligence. Notice that the effect of each point increases with the skill value.

Now for an example:

Your character has Training 5 and is level 42.
Alayan has Training 2 and is level 29.
Ymira and Jeremus have Training 10 and are levels 24 and 25.
You have three troop stacks. The first one is Tier I and has 20 troops.
The second is Tier IV (Nord warriors, level 19) and has 20 troops.
The third is Tier V (Nord veterans, level 24) and has 10 troops.

You get nothing, as there's no trainer of higher level than yours.
Alayan gets 30 experience, from you.
Jeremus gets 40 experience, or 30 + 10, from you and Alayan.
Ymira gets 120 experience, or 80 + 30 + 10, from you, Alayan and Jeremus.
The recruit stack gets 20x200 experience, from all trainers, which should level all of them.
The warrior stack also gets 20x200 experience, but that's only enough to level a few of them.
The veteran stack gets only 10x120 experience, because Ymira's level is too low. Some may level.

Now for the specific questions:

Faster compared to what?

Faster than if you were to upgrade their comrades? Yes, because then there would be fewer troops in the stack.

Faster than they did when there weren't any ready to upgrade troops? No.

Also, I feel like if you have more of a single type of troop, the whole entire stack of that troop gain experience faster.
Yes, because you get experience for each troop member.

As a result, it is a very good strategy not to upgrade to maximum level until you need the last level, i.e. if you are about to fight or about to leave troops in garrison.

I don't know the exact mechanics of it, but I do know you want to level it as much as you can on pretty much every companion (in my opinion). It stacks and when you have really high levels of it, you can train from Swadian peasants to Knights extremely quickly.

As you can tell, I am a Swadian guy through and through. GO SWADIA!

Okay thank you, that answers a lot of questions.

It also works on your soldiers as well, not just you and the companions. if the companions have the training skill as well, they will add there little bit of exp. to the over all pool of exp. that gets divied out to everyone in your army. thats why i like to have my all my companions with at least 5 in training.

Of course it works on the soldiers, didn't you see the examples?

It does not matter on the soldiers, though, i.e. if the training skill is on a soldier, it has no effect on anyone. It only has an effect if it on the player or companions. But I guess I will edit it in, for clarity. After all, I will be cutting and pasting the above, a lot.

So thanks for the input, Freeasabird.
