Female PCs are the only ones that can really expand by marriage in an effective way. Since when you rebel, your husband will bring his territory with him.
marrying into a Lord's family makes them a bit more likely to switch sides when asking your in-laws to come and join your faction, but it's not a huge difference compared to the other factors (though it is one pretty much the only way for an honorable lord to switch sides without his faction being on the verge of complete collapse (or doing a lot of subterfuge to get him and his liege hating each other), since they do prioritize family bonds over their liege).
