The good guys have the better equipment, in general, especially when it comes to the special rewards you get from the leader by trading influence. As you can get rewards from all aligned (i.e. Good when you're Good, Bad when you're Bad) factions, not just the one you start with, any good guys are OK. But if you want to be able to just purchase a two handed sword from the quartermaster (weapon merchant) the Imladris camp has some really good ones.

But the rewards is where it is at.

For the Good Guys, it's the Sword of Westerness you can get when you become a champion of Gondor. For the Bad Guys, it's the Scourge of Mankind, although I cannot recall who awards it. There used to be an ludicrously overpowered bastard sword that Galadriel awarded, but I think it's gone.

For the Sword of Westernesse, there are two types of swords. The first is the bastard sword version which can be obtained through a high rank with the Imladris faction. The second is the short sword version which can be found in high rank with Gondor.

evil factions are way easier than good factions. Playing Gondor is by far the hardest for the goods in my opinion. Many enemy factions to fight at once and if i remember correctly i was winning a ton of battles and the enemy was still winning the war overall. it gets very grim before it gets better if it ever gets better. I believe elves are the strongest factions (i believe there are 3) with their insanely good archers. For the bads the campaign is easier unless you insist on fighting elves then youre going to have a rough time.

For a first game id either go with dale because the evil human faction they are near isnt too tough and dale is close to erebor so you can recruit heavy dwarf infantry to compliment dale archers. Elves are a good pick too because they mostly fight orcs (compared to uruk-hai and evil men orcs are weak) and their roster is filled with light but insanely strong troops.

I cant wait until a mod like this is available for bannerlord

The balance of this mod changes constantly. There was a time when Gondor was lucky to survive the first ten weeks, and when Rohan lost half its outlying villages to (permanent) burnination. Then there was a period in which Moria goblins were pathetically weak. Then goblins (and trolls) got a mighty boost, and Gondor got one too, so things became more balanced both in the North and the South. That was about three years ago.

What has happened since, I do not know. Clearly, something has, because some of what Lonewolf's says is not how it used to be in 2017.
