For the most part Bannerlord feels unpersonal, more like a strategy game, you get numbers and stuff and have to deal with them somehow. Warband gives you more interaction with NPCs, relation actually feels like it matters, what reaches from the way lords greet you to if they even help you in battle or join your kingdom.
In Warband you can roleplay, that is the biggest and more or less only point why you should try the base game.
Viking Conquest and expecially mods are good enough that only Bannerlords graphics stand as a reason to play it.
If you want a M&B game that does shine outside of battles get Warband, but, please, do not expect a better game than Bannerlord. For the most part they will play the same, but you looses a lot of quality of live features compared to Bannerlord and to notice the things Warband is better in you will have to play a bit.
It might be even better to skip nativ and jump right into mods or Viking Conquest, even so mods and VC are usually much harder than the base game, they provide the best M&B experience up to date.
Well made mods after years of developemnt are another chapter - until their devs move them to Bannerlord there is no better MaB experience...
With all the total overhaul mods you can pretty much get a different everytime, and the base game is very remarkable as well.
The combat is also very fun, and troop management/open world feel lets you basically become whatever you want (like a robber/lord/mercenary)
(Because I can actually run it for more than 30mins)
