Mount & Blade: Warband
Village Burning Cowards
A real sight to see--five separate Swadian armies surrounding a Rhodok village, preparing to burn it down. They are flat out cowards. As if one separate army might not be enough to handle a couple dozen peasants. Of all the displays in this game this is the one that gets my goat the most.

There is no way the region of Calridia could survive with such frequent burning of defenseless villages. There would be NO food produced, and the entire region would starve. It ticks me off so royally that several times while attached to no nation, just existing as an independent trader, I have attacked individual "lords" in the process of burning one down. Though they always outnumber me, I always beat them. My army is all mounted men, and we routinely defeat armies that outnumber us by two or more to one. Maybe that's why the Swadian armies are bunched together to burn this one village down.

Destroying a torching lords army will make you enemies with his country. But I have discovered that you can bribe your way out of this predicament. The price is between 400 and 500 silver pieces, which is small. I recoup that much from sea raider prisoners from a single typical battle. It is well worth the price just to put one of these vermin out of business, no matter how temporarily, and to make him the well deserved butt of coarse jokes from the other lords of his own nation. I'm playing as a woman this time, and it must be discouraging for one of these high and mighty "lords" to get his tale handed to him on a platter by a woman.

Sarrabasaramunid is hard to pronounce
Lords are deranged.

Watching a weak 30 man lord run foaming at the mouth through enemy territory just to hit a village at the back of the kingdom is hilarious.

Generally this is why I will refuse to release lords for ransom. Honor be damned, someone has to keep these lunatics locked up.

Yeah warband, for honor and chivalry taught me 1 thing. Chivalry and honor are for stories, not wars. They will surround you and outnumber you. And if they win, you better believe it was an "honorable duel". The victor writes history and whatnot.

Just imagine a Country that's super Chivalrious in their war, but if you lewd a girl and raid one of their village.

They turned into the most barbaric people.

Basically that's me in Most of my Game, just being a nice guy/gal and then ÒWÓ you're raiding the village that love me, UNACCEPTABLE!!!, I DECLARE WAR ON YOUR FACTION BY RAIDING YOUR VILLAGES AND CARAVANS.
It's a pity they don't create an accomplishment--some type of award--for saving x number of villages from being burned down by cowards in armor. As it is we're lucky to be "allowed" to actually stop one of these torchings, and we pay for it. We become enemies of the nation sponsoring the coward. We can bribe our way out of that, but it's amazing to me that a nation sponsors such worthless "lords".

The fact is the region of Calridia would soon starve to death if such butchery of peasants was allowed to continue. When there's no food on the king's table because no farms exist to grow food for his majesty, his majesty may consider banning burning down of farm villages. If his majesty has the brains of a witless mendicant.
I'm one of those Village Burning Cowards... Lol
Village burning is an important part of war - after all, how will people learn to fear my nordic godhood if their children's children aren't made to hear about I how I singlehandedly plundered a village?

Yeah. Thing is that the cowards are burning OTHER nations villages and bringing the wealth back to their lands.

I am not saying its right, I am just saying. All is fair in love and war.

I would like for there to be some kind of negative effects to A.I basically being butchers and pillagers.

then stay away from my beloved village, or else a horde of Rhodok Sharpshooter might come.
I don't think of it as literally burning the village down. More like "taxes". Some jerkov "noble" and his soldiers come in and push people around and whatnot. Not enough to kill the village, but enough to make it suck to live there for a while. Probably without even killing that many locals. One or two tops, to make an example. Very little structural damage too.
I named my toon LOOTER, and he LOOTS THINGS. like villages. hahaha.
I once had swadia, nord, rhodok and sand boi's kings rotting in my dungeon with a prison tower built and ignored every ransom. It was actually really funny cuz their whole economy and fief system shuts down.

There are tactical reasons to keep enemy lords imprisoned, especially if you are besieging the piss out of them. It keeps them from being able to marshal up an opposing force to make your day bad, etc... In my most recent save I have about two-three kings, the entirety of the Rhodoks and whatnot in a prison basically. I'd keep throwing them into there so that when I went to assault about 5 castles, they were locked up -- sitting those attacks out.

Apparently though, the Vaegirs don't like Yarolek enough to buy him back and I've been holding him for years -- same with Sanjar Khan. :D
