Noble Background Question (noob)
Hi Guys,

Just wanted to ask what's the difference in Gameplay when you won't Start with a noble Background?

How hard is it in early Game?

Thank you very much for your time and help.

Starting as a Noble allows you "first dibs" on which banner your warband or faction (later on) will have. You will also have less honour (3) to start in your game as well. You will need at least 60 honour to be automatically friends with all the "good" lords in the game which saves you some time in the grind. Having 3 honour simply by starting as a noble doesn't seem much but the grind to get honour in game is excruciatingly slow. 3 honour is the same as allowing a captured lord to go free after you battle them in field. Even then, it's only a very small chance to capture one anyway. So having the extra 3 Honour at the start is actually a big difference in game.

However, you will really not miss anything important in the gameplay if you create a non-noble player character. The Kings and lords will not refer to you as a noble person during conversation but will not be mad if you become a vassal or king later on. Other than that, you will simply have a slower start, that's all.

The biggest impact is really if you consider which banner to use for your gameplay. The other lords will randomly pick theirs at the start. Once they choose to use a banner, you will never be able to select it for your own later on.

That's about it, really.

You lose a bit of renown, some lords are bit more (or less) arrogant, and you do not get to fly a banner until you become a vassal or a king. Not being noble is a lot less of a disadvantage than being male, even leaving aside that the stats and skills from your father being a nobleman may not be what you want.

So when you start you just don't have a banner until a king accept you as a vassal and give you a title. That's it?

That part with male I don't understand. Did you maybe mean female?

That, or if you start your own kingdom.

No, I meant what I said.
- Females get opportunities to increase renown that males do not get
- Females have a much easier time getting married
- Females' spouses are much more capable than males' spouses
- Females' spouses are a great help in rebelling
- Females do not get a village when they join a faction, which helps with getting a city
- etc.

you will suck as a noble. Just saying. Warband is so hard compared to the original Mount Blade. I am so confused why the fighting system changed. YES I RATHER SLASH AND DASH AND UPGRADE GOT A PROBLEM WITH IT?

The only real reason to be a noble beyond RP reasons is to jump ASAP into the feudal stage of the game
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

In my last game, on day 41, I had 86 honor. It was a speedrun, but still, 3 honor is not much.

By the way, you need 297 honor to get maximum relation with good-natured and upstanding lords you've never met, not 60.

Even if you do not start as a nobleman, you still get the choice of all banners. If you choose one that is taken by someone else, they just get assigned another one... exactly the same way as it happens when you start as a nobleman.

In my experience, this is not true.

Some mods mess up the reassignment, and then you can end up with the same banner as another lord, but even in those mods, that's true whether it happens at character creation, or when you are ennobled.

If you do not believe me, just think about it. If what Wenzilber says were true, when you choose a banner, you would see pages with some banners disabled or altogether missing. But that is not the case. You always see the same banner pages, exactly as they are on the hard drive.

Yes, you need about 300 honour to get maximum relations with honourable lords in the map, even ones you've never met. 60 will reveal them in your Character Report. They will still have a relatively high starting relations with you since you share their personality.

True, the banners will not get deleted. However, the Player will still not be able to choose the same banner that an AI Lord already bears. The player will not be able to select it since it will not be even available in the banner selection screen when he or she creates a new faction later in game as a non-noble background. Starting as a Noble will allow the player to choose any banner he or she wants to play in the play through. It's not game breaking, but it's just something to note if a certain banner is really important to the player.

I don't know what happens in certain mods. I've only played Diplomacy for a little less than 40 hours. I only really enjoy playing Native Warband. And in both cases that I've played as a non-noble background, my favourite banner is almost always taken by another AI Lord at the start and I wasn't able to choose it as my banner when I start my own faction later.

So, if the OP plays the game that is modded, then sure! Everything I said about the game in Vanilla will not be true for his or her playthrough. I apologize for assuming that the OP plays Vanilla Warband. :)

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
