Had no issues since, so, maybe that works for you. Good luck.
EDIT:
Or maybe not... At sieges i still get drops and freezes :<
That may be the reason you still freeze
A few things:
1) Disable "Load Textures on Demand" - Cards can handle that much easier, these days, and dumping a massive texture load on your card isn't necessary.
2) Reduce the number of "ragdoll" effects. These physics simulations are handled directly by your video card, so having a lot of those going on can reduce Warband to a slideshow.
3) Keep "show blood only near player" checked. Otherwise, the game will load "blood" effects all over the place, whether they're easily seen by you or not.
4) On particle effects: There's no need to turn all of them off. The major culprit particle effect for most lag/slideshows is "dust" kicked up by horses. You can disable that by turning it off in your ini file. (Google the subject and there's bound to be a link with a "how to.") The rest of the particle effects shouldn't cause any major issues.
5) I don't play vanilla, anymore, but didn't it get a texture-set boost/enhancement, recently? If so, that could one of your issues. Your 'puter is fine, but it's a little light in certain elements, so don't discount the effect of higher quality textures being added to a game you've been playing for years.
6) A weird quirck, sometimes - Disable Warband's custom sound whatsits setting, the one that slightly alters all the battle-sounds, making them sound unique. Just test that. Sometimes, a computer might have decent stats, but without a sound card handling the processing load, the CPU can get bogged down. Just do it as an experiment to see if that has any effect. It's a darn nice feature and it would be a shame to go without it. (A really cheap dedicated sound card would instantly alleviate that issue, if that's what it is.)
7) Lastly, if you're experiencing this in a mod, check the mod's custom settings, if any. Also, some mods have alternate texture sets that are less stressful, so check for submods that have those. Custom scripts, inefficient scene design, lots of transparencies, extra fire and smoke particle effects, etc, can all have a significant impact.
PS - Also, there's no need for high def things that aren't near you, so if you're dealing with a Warband vanilla with the upgraded texture sets, reduce the quality of distant trees, your own shadow, the amount of grass that is generated, water effects and the like to see if that prevents spikes.
Why not? I did.....
/sigh
:)
Doesn't matter, someone might find it useful.
Actually game works perfect now, can't say why.
I did absolutely nothing and the game works really smooth in 60FPS with battlesizer set to 500 :D
