I'd have to watch you play to know what you're doing wrong

A few pointers:

Don't aim your horse at the enemy. Plan on riding by, bumping him slightly in the process.

Ready (chamber) your attack beforehand, and time the release properly.

Stick to right and left slashes. The overhead has its use, but the stab is suboptimal with swords.

A horizontal slash at head level is best. Use the training field to get a feel for height.

The elite scimitar and the long arming sword are significantly longer than other one-handers.

Practice, practice, practice.

---------

Personally, I do much better in third person view. I find first person's field of view restrictive.

Look at videos of other people doing it to get the timing right.

Here is one of me cutting down bandits in Viking Conquest with a rather short sword.

I also have a whole series in Native where a lot of the fighting is scimitar from horseback, but it is not just that. Here is a non-edited fight in which I cut down a lot of bandits, both mounted and not.

Another tip from a veteran here. Atfter you let your swing go, focus on guiding your mouse towards the opponent, you won't have long to do it so it requires that you practice.

So get the attack in the direction you want, click once, and move your sword to the enemy's head with the mouse right before it hit him.

If you played napoleon wars you have seen people do it with bayonets on muskets, it's the same system on horse except you want to aim down to hit your enemy otherwise it often go above them on horse.

In the beginning use the checkmark in options that says"show attack direction" it will show you where you're attacking from even though its obvious to see, it can help in the beginning.
