AWOIAF is just hardcore - any tips?
I played AWOIAF for the first time last week and gave up.Back to Pendor and rocking but its so frustrating. Its like this mod is made to make you suffer.

Do you have any advice on how to level up so my trainer skill actually is useful? I cant level up properly and so the troops level to tier 2-3 max.

Edit: I mean simple peasants swing those staffs like ninjas. I cant possibly kill any troop because they are so overskilled. Even if I cheat my stats to 24 each and add tons of skillpoint its tough....

Haven't played the mod, but are there any quests you can do? Sometimes those are a better way to get some levels in early when enemies are overstatted. Pendor's elites are incredibly overbuffed, but the mid game is stretched out enough for you to actually get there with lots of stuff in between. I've played several mods that had the same idea, superelites with 300+ skills and outrageous stats, but didn't realize that Pendor was careful to build around that in several ways:

1. Arrows still kill things, and crossbows in particular can allow a lower tier unit (or player) to at least have a shot at killing anything.
2. While high tier armor is brutally thick to someone with bad weapons, piercing attacks are relatively available.
3. It's not all that hard to get a few top-tier units of your own, for the right price.
4. It's a long game with more focus on the midgame than the endgame, meaning you have plenty of time to level up and upgrade gear and skills in a number of ways aside from the vanilla game

The big problem here is getting your proficiencies up to a certail level. Most mods have some sort of weak troop to train on. This one is somewhat different. For example pirates who are a low level bandit enemy have such a fast attack speed that they can kill the toughest knights in close quarter combat easily. Simple thieves roam in gangs of 50+ units. So even if I hire 20-30 high tier mercenaries its really tough to keep them alive. This is killing my wallet really fast.

Also you cant recruit troops from villages without the proper renown level so... yea..

I guess I will just embrace the challenge and try again.

I kind of found the solution myself.

Enlisted in some lords army to get renown and reputation up and earn some easy money.

Got a Florett from Braavos which has a weak swing but 140 attack speed and 115 range to compensate my low proficiencies.

Got a horse, a bow and 2 quivers now I can kill thieves but every other enemy type is off limits.

Now leveling to lvl 30 so those tier 2-3 lvl 29 troops can profit from the trainer skill.

Its kind of frustrating but hilarious to ride into battle on a donkey.
