Just keep asking around. If you don't find them early on, they could be anywhere on the map, so ask everyone you meet.
Eventually, you'll bump into someone who knows something and then you go get them.
They also tend to visit Bandit Camps, etc. at night, so it would be wise to keep an eye out for that.
If you need to find some "faction based" bandits the hideout is the place to go. For the generic bandits you need luck.
Yes, you can. I'll try to explain what I know, but you should know that I mostly play Viking Conquest nowadays...it's possible that there could be some minor differences with Warband or other mods, etc.?
If you approach any lord, villagers, traders, and likely others, you'll get the option to ask about the group of bandits you are searching for. They almost always say something like "I have no idea, good luck with that".
Eventually, you'll meet someone who tells you "You're in luck! We just saw them (insert name of some place or other) X number of hours ago". Then you go to that place and keep asking people for information.
As you get closer to your quarry, you'll meet more and more people with more current and up to date information.
Tracking could conceivably help with these quests, but I never use the tracking skill. It isn't a requirement.
The thing is, this quest will either be solved very quickly (if you're lucky), or it could take you anywhere on the map at all. As long as you keep asking, you'll eventually get the information you need (I'm pretty sure the game will make it so that you find them before the timer runs out?). It just takes a little perseverance.
