But Brytenwalda has a funny mechanic where if you have low agility or something like that, you'll slip and fall on the ground.
It happens very often at the start too.
It's a problem because when you're starting out, you'll be outnumbered in most fights and they will try to leg hug you. So retreating by walking backwards is how players usually fight against multiple enemies—but in Brytenwalda this mechanic makes it impractical.
I have played so much ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ VC and its the best mod imo
Prophecy of pendor is the only one that has come close for me
The best part about it is the reign of overpowered cav units is OVER. Same goes for stupid op archers in mods like PoP. Infantry are by far the most essential unit in VC, essentially giving the most fun combat this entire game has to offer in vanilla or any mod.
You can basically ignore the reviews with this DLC. Most of the bad reviews are so objective or just plain wrong.
First of all the game is no longer buggy nearly at all. I have 100s of hours in this title and have encountered 1 game breaking bug, which i left a negative review and the M&B staff reached out to me and managed to get my save back.
People complaining about that theres nothing to grind on cos the bandits are too strong. No ♥♥♥♥ your army of peasants cant take out a heavy armoured bandit. just join a faction help your lords in safe battles and rescue at least tier 3 prisoners. People who say VC is too hard just dont know how to play it
The start of VC is pretty harsh, but as you progress and level up it becomes one of my top games to play of all time. Also dont expect your faction to carry you like in vanilla. I spent 380 days at war with a faction and in that time we had taken 2 castles from them meanwhile the vikings raided our coast and we lost 2 other castles. You actually have to use your brain and think strategically to win wars and thats why I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ adore this title.
basically dont listen to the noobs. Play VC. Enjoy VC.
Brytenwalda is a mod, VC is those same modders getting a chance to work with professionals.
I loved Warband, and still do, but VC is what I've been playing since I got it.
Yes, it's a melee-thug wet-dream. This is the answer to the Nord-luvin' Warband players' dreams.
Point for point, it's like it jumped right out of the forum comments.
Being one who wrote a review of the game in the early days, I can assure you that those reviews are not the problem. I'd like to think they helped inspire the devs to fix the broken mess that it was initially.
Fortunately for us all, VC got a lot of work after the fact, and it really shows. They did a good job of that. That doesn't mean for one second, that those early reviews were wrong or unfair.
"Nothing to grind"...that's all I do. Round and round the map, fixing up my new cities and collecting wool for trade in Dorestad. Grind should be the name of the game.
"Too hard"...uh, no. It would seem hard to folks who went into it with Warband tactics and lacked the ability to adapt. It's simply melee-focused rather than cavalry-centric. The enemies don't seem to have any sense of self-preservation, so they come at you like swarms of killer bees, but it's not particularly "hard". On maxed out settings, it's really a matter of stamina...considerable stamina. (the smoking man pointed out how this is only true from the more experienced player's perspective. VC is unforgiving to new players who aren't already familiar with Warband, etc.)
I doubt many players have ever bothered to finish this game, but it's worth doing once. There's a lot more castles and factions to beat than Warband has...and that simply takes a lot of time and patience.
With a bit of real world history thrown in, a minimal nod to religion, and naval combat! VC is worth checking out for sure.
noobs who try it out just get smashed, and well, that is no fun for them

Good point, and nice. It's not the game to start on, this is true.
Congrats!
(I made an edit above to include your point...I forgot about that good advice, thanks)
I enjoy that you can just start out as a lord with a small army to begin with, makes me think I was born as a noble.
