Best campaign mod?
It's been years since I last played ,recently having a M&B itch and want to play the single player campaign again. But before I do that, I wonder If there's any good campagin mod that's better than the vanilla version?(No fantasy stuff) The Viking Conquest DLC seems decent too.

Any advice? Thanks!

loooool I was looking for the exact same thing right now with no fantasy in it also. Prophesy of Pendor seems to have a lot of features but it's way to hard for me and I played it with the easiest settings (my army of +100 people got rekt by 20 enemies :D)

Viking Conquest was fun last time I played it and Floris is good too. I'm currently deciding between those two

Challenging AI would be something I'm looking into too, stupid AI is boring. :P Will check out POP.

I'm having my eyes on Brytenwalda at the moment.

PoP is hard for beginners, at least thats what people say. It's pretty hard for me and I already tried it out a few times. It has some kind of low fantasy or whatever it is called. I had to find this out when I played it today... Some kind of elves and demons and stuff are walking around and they wrecked my ass

Viking Conquest is made from the developer of Brytenwalda and an official DLC. I bet it's the same as Brytenwalda with more content. Never played Brytenwalda so I can't tell the difference

Also Viking Conquest has a good storyline imo that you can follow at the beginning. I didn't finish it on my first run because it was bugged as hell and I couldnt enter a cave where I had to continue the story but it was more fun the second time I played and I finished it. I don't think it has that much bugs anymore if any at all

About the difficulty, AI wise? Is it challenging too?

POP (ver 3.7) is good & bad at same time. It is hard af, compared to default warband, but more rewarding as well. New gameplay mechanics & other things will borrow some of your lifetime, be sure of that if you gonna try this mod.
It have a lot of new & good armors\weapons\horses, that fits medieval setting.
New world map & new kindgoms.
It's all about recruiting knights&make heroes from them.
You will get oneshot from 2\3 enemies of this mod if you have less than 60 hp, yet your recruited soldiers may become same. Local Elves (Noldors) knows ancient mlg 420 quickscoping tech, that allows them to kill you from ~200 m. with headshot. You can recruit them too, but they are way too expensive (rare gem, not only money). From time to time game spawns random armies (400-1200ppl), you may challenge them (good luck with that) to gain tons of loot.

First times I played it I got rekt because of low moral and because I went bankrupt. I think the AI is pretty much the same as in Warband but I could be wrong.
Once you start to gain money and manage to keep your own kingdom alive, it's too easy and it gets boring very fast.
PoP does give you a victory condition - One kingdom left as always, but there's a minor faction you have to make friends with and you have to wipe out other minor faction armies - Which can be anywhere from 150-900 troops. They can grow if they rescue a lot of prisoners.

Even with that (well, I beat the last version, not 3.8 which I think is coming out soon), there's not so much a story. Not sure how it works in Viking Conquest. There's nothing more than the victory conditions telling you "go here and do this."

There is a fair bit of background lore though. And as others have said it has some fantasy elements - The Noldor and demons are justtroops with really good equipment and very high stats though. IIRC there are undead too, which have a lot of HP.

Light and Darkness have the best campign. Very well driven history and dialogues with a lot of companions. And the history is actually interesting.

1257 AD. version 0.96
when you say campaing do you mean a mod with a story? if no and you just mean the normal you start out in a town and shape your own destiny I would recommend the A New Dawn mod, its really hard but adds so much more to the game along with making things like talking to guild or village masters in the menu and far more units and weapons and extra heros. Many new factions that can take over fiefs and become major factions like the rhoks, swadians, etc.

At full realism and 135% difficulty, with battlefield AI fully enabled, and the player subject to encumbrance, fatigue, and wounds, Viking Conquest never becomes a cakewalk as most other mods. As a matter of fact, I do not know of anyone who has successfully united the map.

My best character controls seven cities personally, and maybe two thirds of the map, but managing lords and fighting off invasions is becoming quite challenging... and not exactly fun. i.e. I enjoy it, but after five battles in one day, I want to play something else. Money is not an issue, everyone else uniting against the аssноlе set on world domination, is.
