Otherwise, it depends on the situation you're in:
- if your archers are likely to have to engage in melee, Nord veteran archers
- if you are likely to to be shooting at long range, or from chest high cover, Rhodock crossbowmen
- if you'll be in a ranged duel at close range, Vaegir marksmen
Personally, I use them all, for different tasks, but I mostly use Vaegir archers because they fit my play style better - they are the quickest to become useful in combat, with proper positioning they can stunlock other archers, and they carry two quivers more often than the rest.
Other people may find other ranged troops more useful.
I sometimes keep a retinue of sword sisters that I group separately and keep with me when I do sieges. Sword sisters dismounted aren't bad crossbowmen.
But if they did that then we wouldn't be able to see their pretty faces.
