These games need variety, they need a diversity of nations.
While I too appreciate the variety and aesthetic of a "High" middle ages setting, I don't think these are really valid complaints, since implementing them in Viking Conquest would pervert the entire setting of the dlc.
I recommend he and people like him try Prophecy of Pendor, Phantasy Calradia, Suvarnabhumi Mahayuth - great mods that bring a lot of flash and new mechanics on the table, and do not let historical accuracy get in the way of fun.
But as an aside, as someone who enjoyed Viking Conquest a lot, I have to say a few things:
- bows in the player's hands are not useless.
- at high settings, some banners look good, and I love my custom one
- you can still amass one million cash
- some cities, well OK, one city, has a very impressive map, better than any in Warband
- with good riding, horses feel more powerful than in Native, because there is little competition
Of course, at the end, if you do not enjoy infantry combat with large numbers, this mod is not for you. And I am sure Bannerlord will offer MOAR STUFF! out of the box, just as I am sure that there will be Bannerlord mods for everyone.
But, as I started out; you playing over 2000 hours proves you liked it more than you are saying you are and just want to complain for complainings sake. Now, I will agree with you on "one" thing and that is the searching for the mayor and physician everytime you go into town as well as your farmsteads, they should have been streamlined after the first time and then a choice on the display and instantly going to them like the market, etc. etc. on that screen. Afterall they did streamline the divisional setups in the combat portion which I'm glad they did.
The map though is just wonderful and the 3 continents even better than vanilla. Numerous villages now and forts and towns even make it greater than before. I felt 5 factions in vanilla just too few and too boring and once you knocked out a couple of them it really became boring. Not Viking Conquest though. Plus, the random quests and missions and outlying ruins that have different things than just fighing all the time are a GREAT addition to the game. I hope BannerLord has as much or more.
Next time you want to complain about a game don't say you played it so long lol Because you obviously liked the way it was or you wouldn't have played it so long with all the "better" games out there calling your name right? :) But, you fall into that catagory of "Lazy Gamer" as the population of it keeps growing as I read it a lot more on Steam these days of people wanting this and that to make the game easier and less interactions. I suggest Norbsoft's Civil War series and Command Ops then as you don't have to do much in those games but just "watch" and eat your candy and chips till you get to be a FAT SLOB. :))
;)
The fact that a player can enjoy a game for two thousand hours and still have criticisms isn't even remotely strange. I'm exactly the same in this regard. Get a few idiot fanboys jumping in to try and deny VC is anything but total perfection, and I can sound just as butthurt as anyone else.
While playing a good game, frustrations can overwhelm a person. They might get fed up to the point where they post something like this...despite enjoying the game. The opinions of fanboys are worthless - they are no better than zealots in that regard. Critical thinking is where it's at and being honest about the pros and cons is what worthwhile opinions are made of.
The OP has put in the time and is entitled to his opinion. That's all it is though...an opinion. I've seen all of the points he mentioned in a thousand other posts, he isn't wrong about any of it (although a few points are overstated).
Refute his points and put your own forward if you feel the need to do so but don't go around attacking people for having opinions...that just makes us all look like a bunch of losers in here.
I loved the idea of wounds but for crying out loud, wtf I have to go wandering all over the town map to find the doc, same for mayor .why not just a simple context menu same as traders.Blood loss was anothert realism aspect I thought was cool.
I thought the ships were functional and a good base for future games to build on.I would really like to see this aspect develpoed further.
The unique side areas where you somtimes got named items was a nice touch to break things up a bit.
I found reading some of the text quite difficult due to say, dark blue text on a black background, why not white text on black background with a coloured shield inset to donate faction.
I have always found the naming convention for items very silly in M+B games.Quick get me my " Tatty sturdy old norse helm with chaimail neck"I want to wear it ,not read it.Why not, Norse helm Q3 or Norse Helm Q10 Q = quality of item. Or put a G in the bottom corner with a value of 1 to 10 to describe its condition. The acutual graphic tells you if there is a neck piece or not /shrugs.
I bought VC when it first came out.Played it for an hour or so and decided back then, its a bug ridden mess.Started playing properly last week after seeing it had been patched at some point..Big improvment but still, release was shocking.
On a last note, would love to see the trading side developed to a more complex level, give us Marco Polo type peeps somthing to fight for.
Doesn't make sense. It's not like his is an MMO where the game changes.
It is not so unusual to have 2000+ hours. It is not that unusual to love some mods, and hate others.
I have 2000+ hours just on this account, I love, among others, Gekokujo, and hate the ♥♥♥. Nothing unusual with the way the original poster is feeling, in my opinion.
Just curious, which city are you talking about that had a very impressive map? Was it Dubhlinn?
----
I was thinking of Bebbanburh, but while its map is certainly big, the port buildings at the foot of the cliff aren't all that impressive. The screenshot I'm posting is actually from Tunsberg in Northverg. By the way, what is seen in the screenshot is still only about half the city - the keep, the lord's hall, etc... are in the walled area behind the player character.
And yeah, I should probably have have waited to get the screenshot on my gaming PC, and arranged for my royal fleet in port and no fog. Can't be arsed.
