But yeah, after 200 hours or so, Native is pretty easy. After all, the best troops are around level 20, and their proficiency seldom go over 150. Compare to level 60+ and proficiencies in the 600s in Pendor, Perisno and the Last Days.
If you want to stick to Native, you can go for a speed run (the map has been united in 187 days) or you can do a companions only run.
The only way to make native harder is to invent special rules for yourself to follow. Here are some ideas I've used in the past:
- No horses allowed. You and all of your troops must fight all battles on foot.
- No recruiting from villages or taverns. The only way to get troops is via prisoner rescue.
- All female army.
- Companions only.
- Going solo. No companions and no troops; you are a party of one against the world.
But with different goals, it works just fine. For example, with a party of one, in Phantasy Calradia, I achieved my goal, which was the genocide (not necessarily at my hand only) of a few races.
So what mods would you recomend?
Tuidjy recommended three of them. In VC you can set the difficulty of many things on hardcore and maybe it could be hard enough for you, if you haven't already tried it.
Self explanatory Game of Thrones universe with the most extensive mod made to this date, the amount of work put into it is simply staggering, a must to try atleast once.

Crusader campaign with its own helm visor and tournament system makes this a great mod for templar fans.

Don't get me wrong, POP is a great mod and fun to play, I love playing it, but it is no really hard if you know how to play it, and that's not difficult to find out. Really difficult mods are those focusing on melee weapons and modelling ranged weapon in a more realistic way like Brytenwalda or Viking Conquest.
BIG FAT NO
No, the mod is very unfinished and pretty broken to be honest. Only game of thrones fan boys will like it otherwise it's very lacking when compared to other mods.
Here is something I posted last time someone asked me about good mods.
Most polished - Prophecy of Pendor (but extremely hard to start)
Most fun to play - Phantasy Caldaria (but hasn't updated in years)
Most ambitious - Perisno (but still has quite a few problems)
Most complex - Nova Aetas (but is buggy as hell)
Most stylish - Gekokujo (but seriously on the easy side)
Most entertaining story - Viking Conquest (but is a paid DLC)
Most historical - La Guerre de Cent Ans (but the English translation is lacking)
Most boom-boom-bang-bangy - Suvarnabhumi Mahayuthn (but suffers from kitchen sink syndrome)
Most satisfying to win - The Last Days (but changes core mechanics so they're unrecognizable)
