Warband isn't really designed for tactical warfare because, as a general once said, once battle begins, all the best laid plans go to hell. Still you can have your infantry engage and lead a cavalry charge from the side. There is plenty of time for that, but more complex stuff isn't going to work well or, let me put it this way, won't be any better than what I've said.
The best tactic is just to keep your army together so that infantry can follow up and support your cavalry while your archers form a line to fire from behind your infantry. The native AI already does this with archers. All you have to do is time the order for infantry to charge and cavalry to charge. What I do is wait until the enemy is just within the range where my cavalry can hit max speed in a charge. Then I order my army to charge and go and fight. That's it, there's nothing more complicated that you need or that works any better.
All the mods that have tried to do some sort of tactical AI have failed because it is easily exploited by the human player who is smarter and better than any computer AI in that type of dynamic situation. Ask the infantry to form a wall and the human player just rides circles around the infantry and shoots them point blank. Ask the infantry to form an unit and the player can just pick off infantry from the sides, then ride away, come back and lance another one, again and again. There just isn't an AI that can beat the player. The best AI is the one that they already have, that doesn't try to keep formation but engages the enemy forces wherever they are.
Furthermore in viking conquest the AI is smarter if you playing on hard though!!
They take def positions on hills for exp, reatreat back to their reinforsments when outnumbered and there are complex formation like shield wall, and square which the Ai does exploit. All this can make a diference in battle depending on the enemy and your set up!! Thanks For sharing your opinion though and some tactics for perisno bro many thanks!!!
