Viking Conquest: How do I recover my saved game?
I have a saved game that's about 1100 days in, king of a new faction and I just conquered my second town. For some reason it started crashing, usually when I'd arrive to my first town. (I have a few undistributed fiefs, including the new town, so I don't know if that's factoring in.

Finally the last crash repeats every time I try to load the game. I've validated my files, and everything checks out. I can load my other save files. I just can't load this one, and after all the time I put in I'd really enjoy getting the chance to play it through.

Any idea how I can recover it? I can't even seem to find the file.

Locating the file would be your priority, it should be in documents somewhere. If you haven't been using a save editor or cheats and your computer isn't from the 90s (like a large amount of M&B players) then I'm guessing the save is just corrupt. If you're adamant on fixing it then maybe looking at through a hex editor could help provided you know what you're looking for but if not then I'd just give up.

With M&B, if the save is corrupt then that's the end of it. Corrupt saves are the worst but happen especially with really long playthroughs.

This is 2/2 for Viking Conquest and my saves getting corrupted. I stopped playing it a while back because a save got corrupted about 800 days in....

I don't really know what I'm looking for. Put this thread up in the hopes someone might know how to recover it.

Has anyone played this game beyond the early to mid stages? Like, can it actually accommodate a player playing through its options?

I don't want to invest that much of my time into it again if it's this result a third time.
your save games are located in documents,there is also a backup save of your last save there also that you can rename to replace
my advice would be not to use realistic saving for peace of mind (so you always have saves to back-at)
i play very long games (2000+days) and rarely have to reload,but there is always those little errors that can break stuff,better safe than sorry

You remember that Warband store your latest savegame in your viking saves folder as: last_savegame_backup.sav. You rename it to sg01.sav or other and load it.

VC generally freeze or crashing problems are because of configuration. Players are trying to play VC with native configuration but VC need more memory.

Open your rgl_config.txt (you can find this in your documents\warband folder)

texture_detail = 70
render_buffer_size = 15
max_framerate = 120
use_pixel_shaders = 0
fake_reflections = 1

use_ondemand_textures = 1 #if crash move to 0 depend on your pc
use_ondemand_textures_mt = 1 #if crash move to 0 depend on your PC

force_single_threading = 0 #if your pc is old use 1
debug_mode = 0

force_vsync = 1
postfx_dof = 0
postfx_hdr = 0 #common problem, no compatible with vsync active.

use_instancing = 1
number_of_ragdolls = 4
number_of_corpses = 4
blood_stains = 0

My last save got messed up because I checked to see if another save file was also corrupted, so it used that instead.

I ended up wiping all my saves and tentatively playing without realistic saving on. Hope whatever's causing it ends up fixed this playthrough because I really enjoy the game. I just hope I can play through. Thor knows I kick ass enough that I should! ;)
