Changing the save game mode with a Hex editor

Hi,

I'm trying to change my current gamemode from hardcore back to normal so I can save my game during gameplay. I've found online that if you open your savegame with a Hex editor you can change a value to set your game back from hardcore to normal.

But I'm having trouble figuring out which bit to change. It depends on the length of your character name, mine being six characters long. Is anyone able to help me with this?

Thanks for your post. I believe I'm changing the incorrect bit and I'm not really sure where to find the correct one :/

From looking at your file, I'd say that you want to change byte 0x34 from 00 to 01. That's the fifth byte (marked 04) in the fourth row (marked 00000030) The byte directly above it contains 3A in your screenshot.

If that does not work, use the save editor that I was talking about in the linked post.

Hey guys, I'm on a mac and I don't know anything about hex. I followed your instructions, which are great, but I'm guessing I'm not editing the correct byte to 01

Based on a couple of threads I tried these two circled in red - but to no avail.

Are one of you clever people able to help me pick which one?
