Ruby if you want to cut through armor better
Sapphire if you want to hit really fast
Emerald if you prefer a balance between power and speed

I prefer the Ruby flamberge, whatever it is actually called in game. With high proficiency, it is fast enough, and the piercing damage is devastating against the most dangerous enemies.
